    3. Hi Peter; I have a booklet of MIs from this churchyard and there is no such memorial listed. That could mean that it was or is there, but has sunk below ground or become completely unreadable. There is a monument to the Grant's predecessors, the Shaws. Here is what is listed for McGregor: These three are together: - John McGregor resident Cannabole, son John died 15 Oct 1855, age 23 - Alex McGregor, mill of Tromie, wife Isabella McEdward died Boat of Inch 19 Dec 1842, age 32, dau Eglantine Balfour died Mill of Tromie 5 May 1853, age 14 - A McG 1886, wife CC 1891, son J McG 1913 This one is in another location: 1858. Segt John Stewart, Milltown of Aviemore, 9 / 1858, age 67, wife Eliz McGregor 19 July 1857, age 68. 3. My family of Kennedy's came from Leanchanbeg after being cleared from the Brackletter farm, Bell Kennedy daughter of Alexander Kennedy married Alexander MacDiarmid in 1826,he was a war pensioner from the first regiment of foot, the family had disappeared after the 1841 census and the only clue of them was from a mention in the Inverlochy castle rental records extolling the great quality of Mrs. MacDiarmids vegetables it also said her husband was a cripple and that they lived in a wretched heather hut on the castles march. There is a further mention in 1847 on Boxing Day when the castle sent at the suggestion of Miss McDonnell a little sugar and coffee to Mrs. MacDiarmid, Miss McDonnell is obviously a close relative. My Great-grandmother Isabella MacDiarmid when she gave information of her mother she always referred to her as Isabella McDonnell not Kennedy, this may have been because her grandmother was a McDonnell. What I am looking for after all that is where would the closest graveyard to Inverlochy castle be, they would not be buried within the castle grounds but probably near to the where they lived by the roadside, also I am looking to see if there are transcriptions for the CLUNES and BLAROUR graveyards, I cannot find their graves anywhere else in Inverness and am still looking. I am also very interested in hearing from any other researchers of the Kennedy and McDonnell families from Leanchanbeg and Brackletter. Many Thanks in anticipation. Ray Gavan Sydney

The Inverlochy castle records that I mentioned was from a very Kind man who lives in South Africa and I have lost contact with ,he lived all his life in Spean bridge and was a wealth of knowledge on the Roy bridge area, would anyone know if the castle records are available for research. I am very interested in hearing from other researchers of Kennedy's from Leanchanbeg and Brackletter. Many thanks in anticipation Ray Gavan Sydney

Surnames: McLean, MacLean, Gordon, McDonald, McBain, Fraser Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/mbexec/msg/5538/TeC.2ACE/1401 Message Board Post: I've traced my McLean line back to Inverness-shire. Angus McLean was born 1795 in Alvie. He married Elizabeth Gordon in Inveravon, Banffshire, in 1823. I have no record of his death. His father was James McLean born 1755 in Alvie. His mother was Mary McDonald - no further details. James's father was Alexander "Alexr" McLean, born 1720 in Alvie. His mother was Elspet McBain, no further details. Alexander's parents were John McLean and Margaret Fraser but I can find nothing about them. My trail has dried up. Do these names and dates match with anybody else on the List? Does anybody have any thoughts or knowledge of McLeans in Inverness-shire at that time? It's been suggested to me that these McLeans could have been MacLeans of Dochggarroch, a mainland branch which became part of the Clan Chattan Confederacy, but at this stage that's pure speculation.

He rode for the famous Pat Burns a really big rancher in Alberta from 1902 until WW1. He seperated with Grandma, I don't think the was cut out for the wild west. She was quite proper I've been told. My sister has a picture of her on her wall and yes indeed she is quite proper.

Surnames: Ross Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/TeC.2ACE/1399.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Marion, I do have news – you decide if good or bad. Examine carefully the attached 1891 and 1901 census registers concerning a Ross family in Inverness. If this is your 15 year old Alexander in 1901 – he was born in England. This could explain you inability to find his birth in Scotland -as he wasn’t. Further he may not be the child of the same family seen in 1891 without him, but with the other kids. Therefore it is possible that the Alexander seen in 1901 may be the child of relatives, or adopted. I also attach the Attestation register of a Scottish Alexander Ross who signed up for WWI in Alberta in 1915. I really have no idea if he is yours or not, - but the thought of a Scots “cowpuncher” was amusing to me. Regards, Larry
