Elizabeth There is a possible Finlay Fraser in Kiltarlity. Aged 23 place of birth Kiltarlity INV, (Vol 78 ED 2 page 4) - although 2 years older than the Findlay you were seeking so probably unlikely. Elizabeth No Findlay Fraser in my record, I'm sorry. Two Margaret Mcleays. Margaret aged 64 born Kilmorack. The other is aged 18 born Strathconon ROC. They are recorded in different EDs so are probably not mother and daughter. The information is from the 1851 census index to the parish of Kilmorack which is available from the Highland Family History Society. Christine I have an idex with all the names listed alphabetically for Kilmorack in 1851. There ia a William Fraser 55 place of birth Kilmorack (vol 77 ED 4 page 11), Janet 49, William 20, Chirsty 18, Hannah 14, Jean 9 This is from examining the Frasers for matching vol, ED and page. Others are; Ann 13, Donald 49, Donald 7, John 5, Lydia 3, Margaret 43, Peter 10, Simon 12, William 8. Looks like two families were on the same page so hard to separate without consulting the actual census record. Hi Linda, Thanks for your email. I have used Scotlands People to obtain some death certificates in the past however I did not think that the 1851 census was available. Please let me know if I am wrong. £6 is roughly $20NZD so I consider it to be fairly good value for money compared with the cost of New Zealand Certificates. Beware! It can eat up your money and is highly addictive. It costs £6 for 30 credits (not sure of NZ equivalent). Each page of possibles costs 1 credit but each download of individual pages whether birth, death, marriage or census page costs 5 credits. Your credits last for a week and, after that, you can't use any remaining credits until you buy more when you log on again so you don't actually lose them. My apologies if you already know about this resource but it took time for me to find out about it. Hope this helps. Regards, Linda Boyd
Dear List Members, I was wondering if any list member currently has access to the 1851 census for Kilmorack. If so could they possibly do a lookup for me. The 1851 isn't online at Scotland's People (AFAIK). They are hoping to put it online soon. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TeC.2ACE/1407 Message Board Post: This is just to let you know that the search engine for the Old Parish Registers at www.freereg.org.uk is being Beta tested at the moment and should be online soon. FreeREG is a sister project to FreeCEN, but aims to put all the OPRs online – eventually. As you can imagine, it is a huge project and will take a long time to do. We have County Co-ordinators in place for Moray, Fife, Angus, Banff, East Lothian, Orkney, Aberdeen, Caithness, Sutherland and Nairn but I would be delighted to hear from anyone who would like to take on a county. I can also arrange for transcribing to be done by parish. All you need is to have, or have access to, a microfiche reader (the film is cut up into strips) - we use a small program called Speedreg to enter the data into. Unfortunately we cannot have cds for this project. This transcription will have far more information in it than is available at present on the IGI. If you are at all interested you can contact us via the above website or write to me, Anne Fish, (Scotland Co-ordinator) at annef1@tiscali.co.uk for more information.
No info as such on your George I'm afraid, but I thought it may help to know that 'Cullden' is a common mis-spelling for 'Culloden' famous for the place of the battle in which Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Stuart cause was defeated. You may get further searching there instead :-) Kind regards, Val ----- Original Message ----- From: <btkmac@hotmail.com> To: <SCT-INVERNESS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 27, 2006 1:16 PM Subject: [SCT-INV] George McIntosh married a McFadgen. > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: McIntosh / McFadgen > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/5543/TeC.2ACE/1406 > > Message Board Post: > > Looking for information on parents of George McIntosh born 1882 near Cullden, Inverness, Scotland. I'm always happy to jump on the 'roll-call' bandwagon :-) My .... umm, I won't call them a brick wall, more a final point I've got to... is: My gg grandparents Roderick and Mary (Mary-Ann?) MCLEAN left Taransay in the 1840's for Fort William, and from there in 1854 to Victoria, Australia on the 'Persia'. They ended up in Lancefield. I have details of them and children Margaret, Norman, Rachel, Christina, Richard, Catherine, William, Finlay and Mary. I have them on the 1841 and 1851 censuses, shipping records, and varied details on the entire family in Australia. I would LOVE details of Roderick and Mary's births (circa 1809 and 1811 respectively). I have no idea of parents, birthplace etc. Roderick was born 'in the parish' of Harris, Mary 'out of parish'. Any help greatly appreciated. Val Burge, Sydney, Australia http://members.dodo.net.au/valburge/mclean.html

Please do NOT use the subject "Roll Call" or anything similar. Use a name, a surname, a location: something which distinguishes your message from all others. People who receive the digest version do not want to view twenty messages all with the same subject. And people who like to browse the list archives will never look at a message entitled "roll call." Don't just list every surname you are researching: people like to correspond with folks when they think they have a possibility of a match, and hesitate to correspond if no further information is supplied. PLEASE add some information to your list of surnames: a date range, a town, a first name. And please, keep those surnames to Inverness families. Thank you. > Hello all and a belated Happy New Year for those who celebrate that and a belated Happy > Hogmanay for the rest of you. > > Reposting my family names of interest in LOCHABER.
