Dear Listers Just to say thank you to everybody who replied to my enquiry re: the above subject. The information you gave will save valuable time on what will be a very brief visit to the library. Having said that I will get to know the routine for when I return (sounds like a Christopher Lee film), in October for a longer spell in front of a reader. Don't you just hate it when people don't wind the film back to the beginning. Regards Gordon Davidson
I have found -- I think -- a christening record for my gr-grandmother, Jane MacLean, christened February 21, 1826 in Strath, Inverness. Her parents are listed as Hector MacLean and Ann MacDonald. She had a brother, Lachlan but he may have gone to the U. S. before this time. Could someone please check the 1841 census to see if there is any information about this family. I downloaded the file myself but I can't open it. Marion Marham mmrbm@ameritech.net
Would SKS be able to do a look up for me in the 1841 and 1851 Censuses (and any subsequent census) for James & Ann Macpherson of either Chapelpark, Alvie, Inverness or Kingussie, Inverness? They had one child, Jamesina, in 1841 and possibly five children in 1851 (namely Jamesena, Alexander, Marjory, Even & William). Your help would be very much appreciated as I think this may be my family who migrated to South Africa, but I don't know exactly when. Thanks in anticipation, Dale Mathieson Perth, W Australia

Looking for information on Francis FRASER and his wife Helen McKENZIE of Inverness who had the following children: (1) Murdoch, b. 1800; (2) John, b. 1806; (3) Elizabeth, b. 1807; (4) Helen, b. 1810; and (5) William, b. 1816; perhaps others. Helen married Donald YOUNG, a plasterer in Inverness. Elizabeth married Simon FRASER, brewer, Fraser's Street. There was a Fraser's Brewery in Fraser's Street around 1840. Anyone know anything about this brewery and the Alexander FRASER who apparently owned it? Thanks, Joe Broom
I am interested in exchanging information with anyone with a Clark connection in the parish of Croy in Inverness-shire and Cawdor in Nairnshire. Specifically, I am looking to make connections concerning the descendants of William Clark and Lydia Rose (m. 1749) of Cawdor and Croy. They had descendants who lived in Inverness (including Rev. Alexander Clark of Inverness), Croy (including MacGILLIGANS), Cawdor -- at Wester Barevan -- and Nairn (MacPHAILS and GRANTS). I have posted what I currently have on this family on-line at http://www.goodlyheritage.org/clark There is other information on the Clarks and Barevan at http://www.goodlyheritage.org/nairn/clark.html Appreciate any information, and perhaps you might find a connection if you have ancestors in the above-mentioned parishes. Gordon, Saw message regarding Inverness Library. No you will not need to book a reader - first come, first served!! Alistair MacLeod, Highland Genealogist is the man in charge. Tel: 01463-236463, you can make an appointment with him The Registrars at Dingwall might be able to help with BMD's after 1855. Regards, Elizabeth

There are no Edwin Sandison in the Highland or Lowlands cd 1881 census but over 600 matches using the surname only. To enable a proper lookup more info is required such as age, date of birth, married? children? where born. If he is a child name of parents. any extra info will help John
Hi everyone, Sorry to send this to the whole list, but I had a huge computer crash back around Christmas, and I'm just recovering. BUT I've lost the email address of Elizabeth . -- I don't know her last name! -- who's been of extraordinary help to me on my Munros and my Davidsons. Anyway, Elizabeth, I just wanted to drop a note to say I don't know whether you've written to me in the past few months, but in any case I'm by no means an ingrate! :) A thousand thanks and a thousand again for all your efforts. Take care! Pat
If someone of you great Scots have the time, would you please check out the name Sandison, Edwin , in the 81 or 91 Sct. census for me. I have a dear friend who is asking me to try and get some info on him. Thanks, Palmer Fraser Donald Thompson

John I am interested in the census data you have. I would be pleased to see you post it. Thanks for taking the effort, John McIntosh

I was wondering if any Invernessians on the list might know whether there exists a portrait or picture of the Rev. Alexander Clark, founder of the West Church, who served in Inverness from the 1830's - 1850's. I am also seeking contact with anyone who may have information regarding his family. Thanks. Joe Broom

I'd like to add my thanks to Willie and the Larimers for the stories. The stories reminded me of my Grandfather (another William) from Banffshire. My Grandfather, too, would say that he had no more to say and would make a great show of meaning just what he said. But I don't think he did mean it. Better that everything should be lost than given too cheap. So maybe Willie will have more to say if he comes to believe that we will look after it carefully.
I also immensely enjoyed the letters of Willie McQueen. It gave me more of a sense of the times he lived in. Please convey my thanks to him. I'll miss those stories coming in every day. Wish they could have gone on forever. Thanks to Willie and yourself for taking the time to share them with the rest of us who are hungry for knowledge about Scotland then and now. Pam in Illinois
