Hello this is my first time posting to this list. I am hoping for some good of it. My ggggrandfather was born in 1798 in Canada it is in a Bible that his parents came to Canada from Scotland. I am searching for anyone who is researching the GREEN surname. Charles Green b. 1798 in Canada d. ? m. abt 1822 Mary Doty Freeman Emery Green b. 1822 in Canada Haliston Green b. 1827 in Canada Thay had several more children but these are the ones I am hoping will catch someones eye. The story goes when Freeman was 7 months old they moved to Wisonsin. I have quite a bit of information on this line, but am searching for Charles parents. It also did not say where in Scotland, I wish it had, but it didn't so it is like walking into a dark room and having someone change the furniture around. grin. Leona
I am a descendant of the Kennedy (MacUlric) clan of Lianachan and would be interested to hear from any other clan descendants. Also interested in arranging something at the time of the Cameron Clan gathering in August 2001 at Achnacarry. Alan Shaw Australia
Would anyone know the year the "Inverness Courier" commenced ? or if a newspaper existed in 1791. cheers, alan shaw
If you would be so kind, I would appreciate some advice. When our Donald MacLELLAN and his wife Anne MacINNES immigrated to Queensland Australia in 1854, they left behind in Inverness, Donald's mother, Christina MacLELLAN. It is possible that the Christina MacLELLAN who died at Howmore, South Uist, in 1860, is the same person. [The Statutory Indexes list her maiden name as MacKENZIE.]Our MacLELLAN family were all Catholics. I believe that this Christina, was the wife of John MacLELLAN. Any help or contacts much appreciated. Should anyone need additional information, it is on our MacLELLAN website [best viewed with Internet Explorer]. http://www.heritagearchaeology.com.au/maclellan.htm Best wishes, Jen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jennifer Lambert Tracey HERITAGE ARCHAEOLOGY Archaeological & Heritage Assessment Consultants PO Box 4265 KINGSTON ACT 2604 AUSTRALIA Tel / Fax: (02) 6295 6795 Mobile Tel: 0419 011 860 http://www.heritagearchaeology.com.au ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I installed a search engine for the 1841 Fort William census - but I don't know if it will be much help as there are just so many names which are the same -(out of the over 13,700 entries the spider only found 1400 words) and it only brings up the page in which their on.....so you'll still have to search the whole page to find all the entries......but it may be helpful if your searching for a specific place or occupation ??? I've been checking the searches that your making on the Scotland Glens site and feel that possibly some instruction is needed....if you enter more than one name ie: Donald MacDonald - the search engine will pick each name and give you all the Donald's as well as all the MacDonald's - so my best advise is to just use one name or word at a time for your search......yet again as I said before it's probably better for this site to just take one page at a time....that is unless your looking for an unusual name or place.... Anyway I hope this is helpful to some, Bryan Keddy Halifax, N.S.
Hi Listers, Well the complete 1841 census for Fort William is now online with a total of 13,738 entries on 13 pages......hope you all enjoy and find many connections to your roots.....you can view it through the link from my Scotland Glens site at http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/bryanfkeddy/Glen1.html Please note the URL to my sympatico site for the first test page is now deleted.... I was planning on starting the 1861 census next - but have received a message today from Ian Allan who has the Glenurquhart and Glenmoriston Baptisms from 1866 to 1892 which I'm hoping he'll be sending me shortly - so it may be a couple of more days before I get back to the census.....but I'm ahead of schedule and the 1861 should be online by the end of this weekend..... Happy Hunting! Bryan Keddy Halifax, N.S. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Brian and John Thank you for your work I have found one of my families on the list already and there is an older couple with the same surname at the same address so now I have a hint of what to research for another generation back Thanks again really appreciated Marilyn Cameron

Go to ship lists, then passenger lists. Being as the ship ended in "ia" you may wish to check the CUNARD web page to see if there is a picture of her. Main ports for departing were, Glasgow, Gretna, Liverpool, Southampton and Portsmouth. Beig nosey I took a wee look at the site, she arrived on Cameronia II as Cameronia I stoped sailing in 1919, after service in WW I. Hope this helps, DaveM.
Dear Joe, I admire the genealogy you have done on your websites. Well done! I too have Clark ancestry, but it's from Auldearn, specifically Brightmoney in early 18th century. Best regards, Jane >I have posted what I currently have on this family on-line at >http://www.goodlyheritage.org/clark >There is other information on the Clarks and Barevan at >http://www.goodlyheritage.org/nairn/clark.html > >Appreciate any information, and perhaps you might find a connection if you have ancestors in the above-mentioned parishes. > >Joe Broom > >______________________________
Well done Bryan and John for making the census available. No problem with page 1. Look forward to the other pages, Jane
Hello all, I made a bit of a mistake in some recent research some time ago. If anyone is interested, I have a birth certificate for an Alexander John Mackenzie, born 28 Sep 1885 on Ordvillage, Urray. His parents were Alexander Mackenzie, Road Labourer, and Williamina Mackenzie nee Maclennan who were married 27 Dec 1878 in Urray. I will happily send this certificate out to anyone who has a link to these people. Best regards Alan Mackenzie
Hello fellow listers, After some very kind help from Lesley Bone (thanks Lesley) I am a little further back in my research. Can anyone link into the following? Alexander Mackenzie, railway porter (according to his son's marriage certificate in 1912), died sometime between 1869 and 1881, married to Mary Mackenzie nee MacPherson who was born in 1846 in Culloden. Her Mother was Mary MacPherson, a domestic servant born in 1806 in Kilmuir, Ross and Cromarty. Thanks in advance. Alan Mackenzie
Thank-you for your work. I checked out the site and it didn't take much time to load at all - maybe 20 seconds. Keep up the great work. Can't wait to see the 1881 census. Meridith Scott Keyes
Hi, My mom arrived in NY on July 4, 1923 on the ship Cameronia. She thinks it set off from Glasgow. Does anyone know a source I could contact to get information on this ship and this voyage? Thanks. Judy
Was easily accessible from my perspective. Just a note to let you know that I received the floppy disc from John Urie yesterday and have started to load the 1841 census online......temporarily it will be located at the following URL - but due to the size of this census (13,738 names) as well as the 1861 census (10,301 names) and the 1881 census (8,382 names) - I will probably be moving it.....and will definately let you know where to - when I figure it out myself - probably my rootsweb site - but it will still be linked through my Scotland Glens site! Anyway there are presently over 1,000 names on this first test page - and I would appreciate your help in determining if this may be too big and take too long to load for some of you.....I'm trying to make these pages as long as I possibly can to limit the number of pages......which I estimate will be about 35 pages at the current size.....but if we find this is too big then I will reduce the length of each page.... Here's the test URL http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/bryanfkeddy/41ftwillcen1.html I want to thank John again for sending this disc to me - and it probably would have taken him a year or more to type all these out and post to the list......I am hoping to have the three census' online within a week or two..... Well, I was overwhelmed by answers to my inquiry about what Nova Scotia meant, and I want to thank all 10,000 of you who answered me. I felt a little like Regis, and was tempted to ask each respondent if "That was their final answer". Some answered on the main site, so everyone knows about it. Again, thanks for your response. I am looking for information about a Ewan Morrison b1822 , in Croy & Dalcross, Inverness County . Married a Martha Margaret Cunningham . Parents were James Morrison and Margaret McIntosh of Croy & Dalcross. I noticed that some of Ewan's children were born in Scalpa , Harris Inverness Co. I have a picture of Ewan of when he was in New Glasgow. That is about all I know right now. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks
