There is a Lavinia Littleboy christened 17th January, 1842, at Parish of Edzell, County of Angus, to Charles Littleboy and Elizabeth Carr. There are 90 Elizabeth Johnston marriages in the period 1860 to 1864 listed in Family Search in Scotland. Donald.

Hi: I am trying to trace Finlay McDonald, Delshangie,Glen Urquhart. He was in the "Fensibles" for 5 years as a Piper from 1795-1800. He sailed for Nova Scotia in 1801 on the Sarah with 5 children. I am unable to find his parents or brothers and sisters beacuse there are no records for that time period for Glen Urquhart. I have been told he served in the army for 5 years in Inverness before sailing for Canada. If anyone has any suggestions on how I could trace him I would really appreciate any help. Thanks, Barnie Cowan, on rainy Salt Spring Island, B.C.

Thanks, Barnie Cowan, on rainy Salt Spring Island, B.C. The Dates would appear to coincide with the Caithness Regiment, or Rothesay and Caithness Regiment, raised by Sir John Sinclair of Ulbster. The first enrollment for service anywhere in Britain. (Other Fencibles were raised only for domestic defense in Scotland), There were 2 battalions. TYhe 1st was embodoied at Inverness in 1794 and reduced at Bruntsfield Links, Edinburgh in 1799. The 2nd Battalion was embodied at Forfar in 1795 and after serving inIreland volunteered in 1797 for service abroad. It supplied volunteers for the 72nd, and 92nd, Highlanders in 1800, but it did not go abroad and was reduced in 1802. >> There was also the Inverness-shire Regiment, or Loyal Inverness Fencible Highlanders, raised for service within the British Isles by Major Baillie of Duncan and embodied at Inverness in 1795. Active in supressing Irish Rebellion and the name was changed to Duke of Yrks Royal Inverness-shire Highlanders . Disbanded in 1802. Hope this jhelps a wee bit. Dave M.
Hello to the list: I'm trying to find some information on Alex & Isabella (Begg)Smith, who had lived in Southern Rodesia in the 30-40's with their four children, Ian,Marguerite,Agmay & Ella. They (Alex & Isa)returned to Scotland to retire & lived in "Boat of Garden, which is not far from Inverness & are buried in Urquhart Cemetery also in that area. I'm not sure of the spelling but if anyone could help with information or where I could write & correct spelling I certainly would appreciate it. I believe they passed away in the 50"s. Isa was my Grandfathers sister. Regards S.C. GUELPH, Ontario CDA.

Hi Folks, In an earlier message I promised the ordering data for Drummer on Foot (DOF). For those that missed it, DOF is a series of 90 articles that appeared in THE CASKET, from 1912 to 1918. DOF is an invaluable supplement to the History of Inverness County and the two versions of the History of Antigonish County. In many cases, DOF gives the Scottish origins of the pioneers, some back several generations. It also describes several individuals and families that left Antigonish for Inverness County and some onto the Western shores of Newfoundland - Bay St. George and the Codroy Valley. DOF may be ordered from: Donald MacFarlane, 27 Grove Road, Natick, MA 01760 Macfard@massed.net US funds $14.95 + S&H $1.25, Total $16.20 - CAN $19.95, S&H $1.75, Total $21.70. Donald has a WEB site at: Marit ime Mosaic and it's well worth a visit for those with MacFarlanes and other Highland Scot surnames in their family lines. DOF can also be ordered from local bookstores in the area of Antigonish, Nova Scotia. I have no monetary interest, direct or indirect, in DOF. I do think it's worth every penny and I wouldn't be without it. Good luck with your research. See program and registration information on a Gathering of Highland Scots, in Glendale, Inverness County, Cape Breton, Aug 12th and 13th, 2000, at: Highland Scots in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada Http://Capebretonscots.com Hope to see many of you there!!
