The book you are looking for was first printed in 1899 and is very, very rare. I have traced a copy of the reprint, but even this was a special limited edition of 500 numbered copies. I am in negotiations and should have the book within the next week. If you can give me more details what you want I will get back to you. Regards George Inverness -- George D. My Father always told us we were Cluny Macphersons and I am not quite sure that I fully understand what this means. Is it a) that one of our forebears was Cluny Macpherson or that b) we, as a family, belong to the Cluny branch of Macphersons? Thanks Dale geodale@bigpond.com

    2. Laraine Dyer
    3. My thanks to Dave and George for their replies to my queries about "Loindichintnan", Connage and Auchernich/Auchernack/Achernack. Sorry I did not read my notes correctly, I said Connage and Auchernich were both in the parish of Abernethy & Kincardine, incorrect on my part, I misread what I was given, it was the bairn that was born in that parish. The mother was from Connage the father from Auchernich/Auchernack. My info. has the 2 places not far from one another. George: Is the Highland Medieval history of Connage on the web, I would like to read it? I did see Connage near Ardersier in a map on the web somewhere, got to find it again. As for "Loindichintnan" I was told, when they heard the name being said.that often these names were written (spelt) by the session clerk, hence the unusual spelling. Admittedly the person giving me the info. did say the spelling seemed peculiar. It came from OPR for Duthil, so you may be correct with "Lochan nan Cnapan". Dave you wrote: >>You would not mean Culduthl would you? Where the hospital was. in Inverness. dave<< I have no idea Dave, the info. I have is: "James and Grace twin children of James Macfarlane Loindichintnan (?) and of his wife Grace Robertson, born 24th March and bap April 1843. James Macfarlane and Grace Robertson both residing in Loindichintnan were married the 29th day of April 1841". IGI has the correct date and place of marriage as Duthil with Rothiemurchus, Inverness. I also had an email from Stuart on the Moray list and thiswas his reply. >>Achernack is 3 miles NE of Nethy Bridge, 2 miles due S of Grantown - Grid Ref 3027/8247. Connage is close to the old military road from Tomintoul to Grantown, 2 miles SE of the Spey bridge, Grid Ref - 3059/8232. Sorry I don't have a map of the Duthil area.<< Admittedly I am in the position where I canna pronounce Scottish place names, so at a disadvantaged to work out what they are and where they could possibly be. :-)) Many thanks for all the help. Regards, Laraine in NZ

I simply don't have the time to invest in the massive amount of work in transferring them to Rootsweb, but what I may do is see if I can turn my geocities.com site into a free site and keep just these sites up. But for the mean time, I won't take them down; I'll just leave it be until the end of September. USA > Hi Gordon, In NSW you can search on line from 1788 to 1905 for births and to 1945 for marriages and deaths. This cut of point would preclude you from doing this for your ancestor. However you can ask for a search - it costs per each ten year period. Think it's expensive. You can't apply by email but you can by fax, mail or in person as you have to show proof of identity - photocopy of drivers licence or passport for overseas enquiries - and have to give reason for search. I believe you can access registries in other states from the NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages too. I have included the web address below so you can check it out. I am happy to help you from this end if I am able - let me know - but I will be away for a month from 21 August. http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/index.html Good hunting! Thelma Reynolds

    3. Many thanks to all the kind ouls out there who responded to my request both on- and off-list. I do appreciate the feedback. The problem is I am looking for a needle in a haystack. We only have a family story to go on, no records. I am looking for my wife's great-uncle, Roderick MacKenzie, who was last registered in Scotland in 1959 the year his mother died. Family stories have him getting married to an English woman, having two daughters, going to Australia to live and dying there. We have no clue as to what order that happened. Did he marry in Scotland, England or AUstralia? Were the children born in the UK or AUstralia? We are told he divorced along the way, but again, no idea when or where. The fact that it is more recent doesn't help a BDM record search, I know. I was wondering if emigration records from Scotland or immigration records into Australia are available for modern day searches, and would offer us any clues as to timelines or the members of his party/family. Any and all suggestions are welcome. And Thanks again for all the help on Australian BDM sites. Regards, Gordon Harbison
