Hi there, I don't want to be a party pooper, but Conon Bridge is a village 2 miles outside Dingwall in the neighbouring county of Ross-shire and it lies in the Parish of Ferintosh. There is no (and as far as I know, never has been) a Conon Castle. There is Kinkell Castle which sits on the hill half a mile above the village and Brahan Castle used to sit a mile outside the village to it's west and the north side of the River Conon. Brahan Castle was the seat of the Earls of Seaforth, Chiefs of the Clan Mackenzie, until they died out and it was pulled down. The name Conon/Connon has no connection with the village and indeed is not even a Highland name. On the one interpretation, it is a variation of Conn, which is an Aberdeenshire name and on another Connor, which is Irish. Mark, On the contrary, you are not a party pooper. This is exactly the kind of information I want. Expert information at that. I only use the information in the book for clues as to where to look. I don't even know where the author got his information. Let me give you another tidbit and maybe that will help find the castle(or previous castle)mentioned as you are right it was probably named something else. It says exactly this:"Alexander Connon, first known ancestor, was born in Connon on the banks of the Connon river, eleven miles from Connon Castle, which was located on the right bank of the River Invernessture in Scotland." I have been on the Aberdeen list for several months now and I have gotten little help there. I appreciate your input and if you have anything further I am all ears. As I said Alexander Connon is supposed to have been born ca.1760 and I am at lost as where to look for his birth record(especially now with your information regarding the name Connon). Have you any information concerning the name "Airth"? The only information given in the book is Jean Airth(spelled Erath in the book)was born in Northumberland, Scotland. I thought Northumberland was in England? Obviously this book is rife with mis-information. I'll just have to keep looking and anyone with input feel free to chime in. Thanks, Margaret

Hello FIona, Unfortunately, I am unable to help you. The Bernisdale and Nicholson maternal connection caught my eye. I am researching a Nicholson family from Bernisdale who had 2 daughters who would have been old enough to marry in 1892, but no Kate that I am aware of. If you come across any information on this Nicholson line or Bernisdale that might help us both in our searches. please let me know. I will return the same favor. Thanks I would also like to invite everyone to join in our new GENEALOGY CHAT ROOM. The chat is open 24 hrs / 7 days a week to anyone anywhere. Hi to the list, I was wondering if anyone searching the Taylor name has heard of a Agmay, Ian, Ella or Margarite Taylor all born around 1920-?. Their parents where Alex & Isabella Taylor who had lived in Southern Rodesia during the world but returned to the Inverness area to retire & died there. Not sure if the children returned to Scotland or not. Any help would be appreciated. S.Cunningham GUELPH,ONT.CDA.

It is a dream of mine to see Culloden, Inverness, etc. Can anyone tell me what kind of weather we might expect? Is it possible to get a tour or a private driver that time of year? Any suggestions of places we must see? Our family descends from the MacBeans. Sure would love to hear from SKS who can help a novice traveler! Thank you! Pam S. Columbus, Ohio >> yes you can get a driver, take the bus, rent a car or cycle out to Culloden and also don't forget Loch Ness and the castles and visit St. Agustus Abby. Take a nice wee walk down to the Islands in the evening etc. Go up to the castle and have a wee look at Flora MacDonald. As for the weather you could freez or boil. I have seen it in the 60 degrees in January and February and also very cold., it all depends on the weather. Some time ago, a few weeks, one of my many lists offered us a chance to buy into the purchase of a rare text. It was to be held in common by either the list owner or someone close to him/her. Some lister came up with the money to purchase it and the rest of us were encouraged to buy a piece of the action to pay him/her back...and we would get a CD copy. I sent my VISA card number to the respective site as instructed to get a copy of the CD which was to be prepared and mailed off to us...$10, I think...or L10 UK. My problem...again, I have lost all my data and I am not amused. To add insult to injury I have lost the details of what it was that I bought into and I have not received my CD. So, the obvious questions are: did I imagine all of this, does someone have my VISA number and is using it on the Left Bank of the Seine, or is it just that the deal has not wrapped up yet. If someone could enlighten me on this whole deal, I would be grateful. Darn, they said senility would not be this bad...first it was the whatsit and now its the brain! Al Dempster
Hi Al: I have been on this list for a longtime and must admit I have never seen anyone offer anything like that here. Did I miss something. Good Luck Lorraine Ottawa, Canada
