I'm seeking connections with MacInneses from Breakish. The only information I have is :- FLORA MacINNES m. WILLIAM FRASER before 1791. Donald A. Robertson, Kyleakin, Isle of Skye
Hello, The 1851 census for Petty (enumeration district 1) lists my gg-grandfather John McIntosh (wife Elizabeth Gollan) as overseer of Gollanfield. An article in the Clan Chattan Journal about the Gollans reads: "The name Gollanfield is that of a well known property, to the east of Inverness, consisting of a manor house and hamlet; obviously called after the family." On a map I have, Gollanfield is placed between Fort George & Croy. Since I don't see myself getting to anywhere in Europe anytime soon, would it be possible for someone from the area to take pictures of the site for me? I imagine by now there might be ruins (or nothing) left of the manor house & hamlet, but I am curious to see what's there. If possible, would anyone be kind enough to send me copies of pictures from books (if any exist) or copies of photos from family collections? My address is: C.A. Quinn 601 Stoneleigh Avenue Unit 612 Carmel, NY 10512 U.S.A. I know I'm asking quite a bit & any help will be greatly appreciated. ===== Peace, love, joy, Cher owayo@yahoo.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! There is still a chance that the mail will be returned, but there is also a chance it will get through. I realize this concept is very hard for many to understand because of the great distances in North America or Australia, where everything is relatively new, and where populations migrate around the country, and this does happen in Scotland also, but a lot of the smaller villages still have very deep roots, especially in their institutions. For example if one were to send me a letter C/O my Uncle or aunt in Melveig it would have to go no furthur than any of the villages around Loch Marie, or at worst to Gairloch and I can be quite sure it would wvwntually be delivered, probably as far as the post bus depot would do it as the driver would know the name., after all we have had a house on the property since before the 45, and the chicken shed used to be the house before that. Aye weeel they will be knowing us by now then. hahaha No messages about family intermarriage or sheep are necessary thank you very much. Hope this helps. Dave
Hi Heather, I have only one in my line that I am researching: Mary Lamont, Born abt 1802, Married Donald Nicolson, had 3 Children Alexander, Donald (my line), and Marion I believe they lived in Bernisdale. The 1851 Census entry consisted of - Mary Nicolson, head, widow, aged 59 Alexander, son, 24 Donald, son, 19 Marion, daughter 16 The baptism record for Marion shows she was christened on 18 January 1838, Bernisdale being born in 1835 Her parents are given as Donald Nicolson and Mary Lamond (or Lamont). The MC for my Donald Nicholson and his wife Effie McInnes listed his parents as Donald Nicolson and Mary Lamont. Going back to the 1841 census I could find no record of them again in the Snizort parish. I do not know where they are in the 1861 and 1841 censuses, they may have been mistakenly excluded from the census or they may be in a different parish. Unrelated Lamonts: In the 1881 Census for Bernisdale there is this listing, but I am unable to connect it to my Mary: Dwelling: Aird Bernisdale 75 Census Place: Snizort, Inverness, Scotland Source: FHL Film 0203428 GRO Ref Volume 117-2 EnumDist 2 Alexander LAMONT M 39 M Snizort, Inverness, Scotland Rel: Head Occ: Cotter Mary LAMONT M 42 F Snizort, Inverness, Scotland Rel: Wife Occ: Cotters Wife Angus LAMONT 5 M Snizort, Inverness, Scotland Rel: Son Occ: Scholar Let me know if there is a connection. Hi Everyone, Rather than tack this onto a request for information, I am sending this separately. I would like to sincerely thank everyone who sent information and took up their own valuable time at various libraries looking for information on my elusive MacSorlie Cameron's. A HUGE THANK YOU. I would never have done it with out you all. Kindest Regards Andrea

Robert McFarlane sometime ago transcribed this cemetery where I have Kennedy and perhaps Cameron and MacDiarmid family, I would like to buy this little book,I have recently " spoken" to Robert and he seems to think that there should still be some around for sale, if there is anyone out there who knows of where I could buy this book I would much appreciate hearing from you. Many Thanks. Ray Gavan. Sydney
Hi Folks I am trying to locate the marriage of my 2*Great grand parents Neil M(a)cLEAN and Rachel NIC(H)OLSON and details of their children; so far unsuccessfully, by having a Professional researcher checking for both: i.e 1851 Census and Kilmuir Parish Records. According to a Register of Births in 1855 of an unnamed female daughter shows Neil & Rachel were married 1841 Kilmure which I assume maybe Kilmuir. Rachel's birthplace is noted as Stenscholl Eastside and Niel's as Broadford Strath. This unnamed child was born at Idrigil, Uig Snizort. This certificate also shows that Rachel was the mother of 6 children (girls) of whom at this time 4 living. I have found details of another daughter (Marion) who was born April 1859 and my Great Grandfather Alexander who was born 22 September 1856. By 1865 Alexander was in New Zealand and I am still trying to track down Shipping Records to there too!! Niel's occupation is listed as Sailor & Crofter which suggests to me wherever he moved to he rented property! Would this be correct? If anyone can help me I would truly be most appreciative. Thank you for reading:-)) Best wishes Rachel Alliston Cardiff...Hunter Valley...Australia ralliston@optusnet.com.au (Default) alliston@msn.com.au
Following up on something Dave M said a long time ago, I wonder if my MacDonald gr-gr-grandmother was Catholic and that's why I can't find any record of her marriage or the christening of her two children. If she was married in a Catholic church around Portree, which one would it probably be and might they still have any records? Marion Markham
Can anyone help me please? I know that this is not an Inverness query but I don't know who else to ask. Can you tell me what district Edinburgh would come under? I'd like to join the Family History Society that covers Edinburgh but am at a loss as to how to do it. Many thanks in advance Anne Forbes amforbes@ukonline.co.uk
Reposting interests in the McDonell/MacDonalds of Leek. Having exhausted my searches for the origins of my family ancestors, Alexander & Janet MacDonald (both born c.1790) who lived in Leek, parish of Boleskine & Abertaff Inverness between 1818 - 1851, I am now trying the adjoing parish of Kilmonivaig where Janet was born. Unfortunately I don't know where in the parish she was born but it is possible that she married Alexander there. At least two of their seven sons, Donald (25/05/1835) and Archibald (05/10/1837) were probably born there. The other five sons, Angus, Duncan, Alexander, Ewen & John were born between 1818 and 1837. There was also a daughter Ann b. 1820. It is possible that Alexander (1790) was the son of John MacDonnell & Ann Grant of Kilmonivaig but this is a guess at this stage based on IGI info.. Anyone with similar family names from this area, your help would be greatly appreciated. David McDonald Port Fairy Australia
