    3. Seeking data , either your comment or possible sources particularly for Beauley, for fishing activities in Scotland of Alexander Leslie b. 1780s Bridge of Don, Aberdeen Scotland - d. 1870s Prince Edward Island, Canada In particular: I..at Uig, Lewis abt 1830, possibly involved with Mackenzies of Seaforth were landlords until the 1840's. Who owned the reported 80 open boats in the parish and 1 decked vessel of the fleet who caught fish for the London market (New Statistical Account for Scotland 1833)?? II. Would some Scot please evaluate or interpret a history of PEI, Canada which suggests that "Alex Leslie...leased the Long Isles... employed a large fleet of fishermen and two vessels carrying the product to London...." ???? III In 1827-32 after the Clearances from Park and Uig where did emigrants go?? To PEI in Canada? IV. Are there any fishing-type records for 1820s when/vv Alexander lived at the Corfhouse in Beauley, land of Fraser of Lovat.?? V Where are records for the Scots supplying fish to Billingsgate in London in 1820?? Thanks Marilyn -- a stubble jumper in Western Canada s

    3. I would like to thank fellow listers for telling me about the book "Back to Lochaber" by Stuart MacDonald. I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw on pages 20 and 21 mention of my 2g grandfather Angus (Drochaid) MacDonald and his brother Donald (Drochaid) the MacDonald grandfather of Mother Mary MacKillop. I have desperately tried through the internet and local booksellers in Scotland to get a book by the same author called "MacArthurs of Brae Lochaber". Are there any other similar books around? Could anyone help with an Australian - internet or otherwise - source? I would be most grateful. Bill.

    3. David, In the Inverness District East monumental inscriptions pre 1855 book that I have, it lists two graveyards, Moy and Isle of Moy. The Moy graveyard refers to OS Grid Reference NH 772342 if that means anything to you. Who are you looking for and are they pre 1855 ? If so, they may be listed in this book if the inscription on the stone was readable. 3. Friends, I have to say good-bye. I'll be unsubscribing tomorrow. I need to give my living family my attention at this point, so my interest in connections to my ancestors has to give way. My brother-in-law has meningitis for the fifth time and they've discovered a dime-sized hole between his sinuses and brain which requires some pretty serious brain surgery. My sister is completely paralyzed with fear about his surgery. My 84-year-old mother-in-law needs two knee replacements and has moved here to be closer to us. And a dear friend has just been diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer. What with the adoption of our two toddlers a year ago and both of us teaching music in the public schools, my plate is indeed full. If you have need, please feel free to contact me any time off list. I will miss my daily mail lists. God bless y'all, Pam Bennett Young Texas

    3. Thanks to kind subscribers of this list, I have a little more information on my missing ancestors: ALEXANDER TORRIE, b. 1824 S. Uist, Inverness-shire, married MARIA CHARLOTTE SEATON CAMPBELL, on May 3, 1865 at Tradeston, Glasgow, Lanarkshire. They had three children: ALEXANDER, b. 1865, MARIA MARGARITA, b. Oct. 6, 1969 at Milton, Glasgow and ANNIE JANE, b. July 10, 1873 at Milton, Glasgow. The 1881 census Strath, Inverness-shire, ED 5/9 Harripol states ALEXANDER TORRIE, married, 57, annuitant (Post Office), b. S. Uist, Inverness-shire MARY (CAMERON) TORRIE, wife, 23, b. Strath, Inverness-shire MARIA MARGARITA TORRIE, 11, scholar, b.Glasgow HECTOR TORRIE, son, 11 months, b. Strath, Inverness-shire Then, in 1888, CHRISTINA TORRIE, daughter, b. December 21. There is no mention of Annie Jane in the census-I wonder if this child died in the interim? If this added information rings any bells with anyone, I would appreciate any and all help. Thanks so much. 3. Hi, Nice to get an easy one. It means simply "the daughter of the one of Ose". [ But "fear Ois", while literally meaning the "one of Ose" ,probably in this context means "the quite important one of Ose" (such as a tacksman or some such above the common herd chap). Ose, in case that is the problem, is a one-horse village near Dunvegan in Skye. 3. Hi It rings no bells at all with me but maybe more context would help. In the written version of a Gaelic name you can generally get three generations at once and any old scribbles associated with what you have may give clues. If you get nowhere this time, don't give up. As far as I can judge, there are very few Gaelic speakers on this list, but more and more young people are becoming fluent and literate and interested in genealogy.
