Hi everyone, I have posted this before but still have my same problem. This is my problem "WARREN" . My GGGrandfather was ROBERT WARREN. I have his Marriage & Death Certificates both giving his birth as Inverness and his parents as DUNCAN WARREN & MARGARET WALKER. I think this information may be incorrect. I find a DUNCAN WARREN married a MARGARET SIMPSON in Kingussie & Insch Inverness and the children listed include a ROBERT with the correct birth year and all the siblings have the same name as ROBERT named his children!! I have not been able to locate when he entered Australia either. Can anyone offer any assistance or advice? Donna Benson Queensland Australia
Thanks Tina, My Mary Macrae who married Alexander McLennan about 1814 and died in 1820 was the daughter of Alexander Macrae[Alister Don] and Isabel of Auchtertyre. Most of the family seem to be buried at Kirkton of Lochalsh, but not our Mary----her daughter Janet/Jessie McLennan who married Duncan Macrae was raised at Fernaig with her aunt Ann McLennan-wife of another Duncan Macrae[Donnachadh Og]. many thanks for replies, Maureen. I am researching Murdoch Polson who married Catherine Sutherland and from about 1800 they lived at Marrel near Helmsdale in Sutherlandshire. I can't get back any further than than this. The IGI site has Murdoch Polson born in the 1700's at Inverness. Does anyone on this list have a connection Adair Polson-Genge Aotearoa/New Zealand
I was hoping that a reply re the graves at Balmacara would be posted to the list. My 3 x great grandmother Mary MACKENZIE born c1796 came from Balmacara. I have no idea as to her parents. Could someone please enlighten me as to the location of Balmacara. I had wondered whether I had misread where Mary came from as I had noted Balnacara not far from Lochcarron in R & C. Mary married 25 Dec 1821 Malcolm FINLAYSON - they lived at Janetown when John was bap. 1823, and Slumbay when Alexander was bap in 1825, John in 1827 and Duncan in 1829. Mary died in June 1830 and was buried in the Old Lochcarron Burial Ground. Two years later in December 1833 Malcolm Finlayson married Elizabeth Mackenzie born c1815 from Balmacara. I have no idea whether Mary and Elizabeth were related. Does anyone recognise these two Mackenzie women? I would be grateful if someone could tell me where Balmacara is. Evelyn Smith Sydney, Australia
Thankyou so much for the information on the old graveyard at Balmacara.I began to think there wasn't one, until I got a reply from Tina--explaining where it was at Angle Hill on the Balmacara estate.Bless you Tina! Maureen, Orewa. New Zealand

My 4th grgrandfather was Donald Fidhleir Morrison born circa 1785 in Inverness-shire and married to Margaret Campbell in Galder Glenelg. He was a tailor by trade and I have narrowed down their immigration to Glengarry Ontario Canada sometime between 1815 and 1820. They settled in Laggan in Glengarry and had 9 children. So far I can account for 3 Malcolm, Ann and Iver. Malcolm is our line and he married Ann MacCrimmon and her parents were Duncan and Mary MacCrimmon from lot 11 conc 4 West Hawkesbury Some of these MacCrimmons are buried in Williamstown I am trying to find the remaining children of Donald and Margaret as well as brothers or sisters to Donald. Also would like to straighten out some of the MacCrimmon line. Slainte, Bill

My great, great grandmother was Helen Gillanders born circa 1801 to Geo. (presumably short for George) Gillanders, a farmer, and Christina Stewart Gillanders. She married my great, great grandfather William MacGregor on February 27, 1820 in Galson, Stornoway, County of Ross & Cromarty. Helen Gillanders had a brother George who was born in July 1805 also in Stornoway, Ross & Cromarty. My great great grandmother Helen Gillanders MacGregor died in 1864. I am in the process of doing extensive research work on our Scottish roots and came across your message.

I would be grateful if someone on the List would help me with this request: In searching for my McIntosh ancestors on the IGI, I have come across a family born to Alexander McIntosh and Isabel Munro between 1787 and 1801 in "Westerleys, Croy and Dalcross, Inverness". I have tried the Streetmaps and Old Maps websites but couldn't find "Westerleys". Does anyone know of it? Thanks, John

I think that you have probobly got two entries from the Graduate's Book intermingled.I have had a look at a book entitled "Roll of Alumni-University and King's College(Aberdeen) 1596-1860".The entry for Alexander is very brief-"1758-64.Alexander McLean,Skiensis.A.M.". Skiensis as you probobly know,is the Latin for Skye. One of his fellow Classmates had this entry: "Alexander Angus,Aberdonensis,nat.V.D.M.,de Culsalmond,A.M." Aberdonensis is Latin for Aberdeen, and nat.V.D.M. de Culsalmond(natus verbi dei minister)means roughly "born a servant of God out of the parish of Culsalmond".Tullynessle and Botriphnie were the Parishes in Aberdeenshire that Angus subsequently served as Minister. I checked some other books, and as far as I can ascertain,Alexander McLean never Ministered in Scotland upon Graduation. Regards,Chris.

My brother is in Fort Augustus trying to track down our McDonald/ MacDonell relatives. 13 years ago I remember going to Fort Augustus , before the town coming from Loch Ness I remember seeing a large Catholic building they were selling bricks for its restoration. We went down a long driveway at the back and found a number of McDonald graves. At that point I was not in to genealogy and more concentrated on keeping my then 2 and 4 year old from running over the stones. My brother is there right now but thought the building I was referring to was the Abbey but he could not find my long driveway or the ordinary graveyard just one with white crosses for the benedictine monks Can you help? We are looking for our gggrandparents Ewen and Anne/Annie McDonald. They had lived in Markethill, Fort Augustus Julia New Zealand
