    3. Hello Peter The passenger lists of all 29 ships of the HIES are already on the net at http://www.angelfire.com/ns/bkeddy/HIES/1.html which includes the Ontario. Greg Munro at http://www.acay.com.au/~gsm/Ontario1852.html also has the Ontario and at http://www.acay.com.au/~gsm/Bounty.html the Midlothian, the James Moran and the George Fyffe. There are "shiploads" of Inverness people on these so happy hunting. The placenames are also sometimes more accurate than on the Keddy transcriptions. We also have worked with the HIES records and, generally where we have information as to what happened to people when they reached Australia, have the records in the People section of theClearances.org. 3. Dear list, While updating my Emigrant index, I found an entire ship full of people from Skye - about 200 of them!! It was the "Ontario", which arrived in New South Wales in 1852. If you found someone on Skye in the 1851 census, then 'lost' them, they may have travelled on this ship! Have a look at the index at : http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~maddenps/INVEM1.htm Cheers, Peter.

    1. [SCT-INV] McDonnells/ MacDonnell of Glengarry, Inverness
    2. I've just found where my gggrandparents were buried at Munerigie, Invergarry in a cemetery now submerged as part of a hydroelectric scheme in the 1940's. Their names were Ewen McDonald, merchant of Fort Augustus and Ann McDonnell who died 1858 aged 67. This small cemetery included Camerons Angus Cameron, shepherd of Glenfintaig, died 19 Nov 1930 aged 95 Catherine Cameron d 16 January 1893 Her husband Duncan Gilles 2 April 1872 aged 62 and their son William died 1865 aged 26 daughter Jessie died at Inchlaggan aged 16 Donald Gilles Christine McDonnell d. Leek 1902 sister Helen, nephew Donald ,gamekeeper Aberchalder His wife elizabeth cameron, died 1921 aged 66 Donald McDonnell 1822 John McDonnell, son of Donald Bhan McDonnell[ old Ground, Invergarry died 1880 and Jane Kennedy his wife and daughters Jessie died 1885 at Glendoe and sarah, Smithy Cottage, Invermoriston d 1911 My Ann is obviously related to these people. Christine according to the Mormans was Ewen and Anne's daughter but her death certificate says she was Donald and Isabella [also nee McDonell] McDonnell's child. My Ann's [Annie] death certificate however talks of her parents being Alexander and Catharine McDonnell. I know that inter family adoption was a common practice in those days. Please contact me if you want further detail as i have many of these people death certificates now

The unsubscribe instructions do work, one merely needs to choose the correct address. If you are subscribed to the Digest and which to unsubscribe, send a one word message (unsubscribe) to [email protected] and if you are subscribed to the list (individual messages arrive in your mailbox) send the message to [email protected] And if you are having problems, send a message to [email protected] Note - these instructions are the same for every list at Rootsweb. Simply substitute the [list name] for SCT-INVERNESS. But sending messages to the list does not work. The list processing software does not read the body of posted messages.

    3. In the free pages, I have found a listing in Kilmallie, Achnacarry, house #3, for an Alexander Cameron, age 3, born Kilmallie, lodging in the house. Does anyone have access to the actual 1861 census who might be able to look up this reference and see if it is correct, and if there are any other details? Many thanks! Sheila

The James McGregor that we think was born in the parish of Duthil and according to his age on the Gravestone in the Inverallan Cemetery, it is estimated that he was born circa 1768. It has been suggested that he enlisted in the Strathspey Malitia after the birth of a son, Peter (Patrick), 1n 1792 and served in that Regiment until it was disbanded at Stirling Castle in 1799. A couple of books have been written about the history of this Regiment but unfortunately they do not include a Muster Roll. I have made tentative inquires at the National Archives in Edinburgh to establish if in fact the List of Enrolments in this Regiment are included in the Seafield Papers (Archive Ref. No. GD 248/213/5-7) Perhaps SKS will take the time to review this document for us. Will talk to you later! George in Ottawa
