My 2great grandfather Angus McDonald is stated on 1841 Census to have been born in GLENELG. 1801 His wife was Catherine McRAE born Kintail. 1807/8 I think I now have the siblings ( although only half were on the IGI - found a further 5 on the 1841 census) Cannot find a death for ANgus or Catherine - nor what happened to the family after the 1851 census. THis is the time that the MacDONNELS cleared the Knoydart area. THis area of Glenelg seems to include all of the Knoydart penninsular. All I know of the period between 1851 and 1861 is that my greatgrandfather Donald McDONALD was in Stirlingshire (as a shepherd) about to marry Elizabeth MacFarlane and emigrate to NZ in 1862 It is a "brick Wall" who Angus's parents were?? or where he died ??and where Catherine. died?? Also what happened to the other siblings of Donalds??? - namely Margaret, Helen, Catherine, Christy, Ann, Roberick and Archibald What I did want to ask you was how did your get information on the Kirk Sessions??? Would like to hear from you, regards Janet Macdonald (Married name Drinnan)

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TeC.2ACE/1135 Message Board Post: A thought struck me, after perusing the Statistical Accounts of Glenelg for both 1791 and 1845. The population for the parish hovered at the 27-2800 mark throughout this period. If we were to make comparison to any small town of that population, there is a very strong possiblity that the people with the same family name would be related. I am still hoping for a response to my posting of May 29, 2003.

    1. [SCT-INV] DOWNIE- Moy & Dalarossi
    2. Hi I'm new to this list. Looking for any family of Donald DOWNIE (b abt 1826, Strathdon, Aberdeenshire) and Hannah (nee Levick, b abt 1829, Owston, Yorkshire). According to the birth certificate of their son George, born 10 August 1855 at 'Free Cottage'  in the parish of Moy & Dalarossi, there was a daughter (deceased) and a son (living) born earlier making George the 3rd child of this marriage. Donald's occupation was Gamekeeper. Can anyone tell me which estate Donald may have worked for in 1855? The family moved south to Warwickshire between then and 1857 where 2 further sons were born. I am also very keen to know what happened to the daughter and eldest son of Donald & Hannah, were either of them born in Moy & Dalarossi? Many thanks Stuart
