Hi again all, Once you've heard the MacLean sisters on SONS - just remember that the internet broadcast is in low quality mono (16 kbps) - and their CD's are in recorded in high quality Stereo (1411 kbps) - so the internet radio is just a way to get you introduced into their music - so once again - I'm obviously a big FAN and want to help them become international known in the ever increasing multitude of music available - of which the best way is to buy their CD's and listen and enjoy for yourselves !!!! http://www.macleansisters.com/ I promise you that you won't be disappointed !!!!!! Speaking of which - Len is there a possibility of an online MacLean Sisters FAN CLUB in the near future ? Hi all, Just a short note to let everyone know that I've just received the MacLean Sisters 3 CD's - and presently, I'm playing the first two CD's on my internet radio station SONS (Sail on Nova Scotia) - at http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/bryanfkeddy/SONS.html - and will start playing their Christmas CD starting on Dec. 1st ..... For those of you who are not familiar with the MacLean Sisters - please check out their website at http://www.macleansisters.com/.... Last but not least - I'm very proud to be able to help promote their wonderful musical talents to the world - and even though I have MacLean blood flowing through my veins - I'm trying not to be biast and honestly believe that their musical talents will be recognized as a world talent - as I believe - "They are truly a best kept secret in Nova Scotia" - and hope you agree - as I've become a huge FAN of theirs since hearing their CD's !!!!! Margaret Gillis, daughter of Donald (Ban) left Arisaig in 1816 with most of family fairly well grown up. They eventually settled in Antigonish County, Nova Scotia. Family included sons John, Donald, Alexander and Hugh, and daughters Mary, Margaret, Catherine, Elizabeth, and Ann. John married Ann Gillis in Scotland and came to Nova Scotia some years. Any known relatives in Scotland?
I've been persueing family links in Aberdeen/Banff. I am now broadening my search for any JOASS/JOSS data. The fact that it is a rare name and confined to the north and east of Scotland, makes me hope that I may find links elsewhere. There are some in Dingwall & Inverness, they were buried in Chapel Yard but there is no memorial stone. Family names that are passed down to the next generations tend to be Alexander, George, William, John, Helen, Ann, Isabel, etc. If there are any Joass's around please let me know. Kyle McAllister
Hello Listers This is my first posting here so greetings to you all. Is anyone researching Macmillans from Barra? I am descended from Roderick Macmillan, born Barra c 1830, and married to Jane Fraser from Edinkillie. They lived in Rafford and had three sons, Roderick, Donald and William Macmillan all born in Burgie, Rafford c 1860. All four men worked for the GNoS railway and William moved to Perth again working for the railway. I've found living descendents of William still living in Perth and we're looking for more Barra relatives - living or dead. But we're keen to hear from all Barra Macmillans as all info is useful. Hi List, I am a new list member, and I live in New Zealand with my husband and two young son's aged 6yrs and 2yrs. and have just started researching my Grandmother's maiden name of McNEIL, I have so far traced them back thus far to: Angus McNEIL m Marjory McINTOSH, 4 Ocotber 1764, Dores, Inverness. I have birth and some marriage details for their 9 children all born in Dores, but would like to gain more information on Angus and Marjory such as birth dates and parentage (if anyone on the list could oblige me a look-up or two of some description, I would be eternally grateful!) I would also like to ask if I may if someone on the list would have a photograph of the church at Dores (if it is still standing that is!!!) as I would dearly love one for my records, I have one of the church where my husbands 7xGt grandfather was christened and then married in, in 1763 so I'm hoping for the best!! I remember articles in the Sunday Post in the 1950s or early 60s, one of which was about things taken to the top of Ben Nevis. I think there was a car, and probably a piano as that was the time when there was a lot of piano-smashing going on. Sheena

Hello list members, I've just joined this list and am interested to see if there's anyone else who shares the following names in their family tree. My great-grandmother was Kennithina McKenzie Batchen (alternatively spelt Batchem), who was born on 4/Aug/1846 in Inverness. Kennethina's parents were John BATCHEN and Barbara McKENZIE who were married on 4/Feb/1842, in Inverness. Their children, in birth order, were as follows: Barbara McPhail, Alexander, the above Kennithina, John Lamb, David Hector, Patrick, and Isabella Allen. I hope someone can make some connections! Thanks, Pam. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Exclusive Video Premiere - Britney Spears

I think the photograph was taken in the area where the track had climbed clear of the lower slopes and had reached the zig-zags on the shoulder of the Ben. The observatory fell into ruins and was just a heap of stones by the early 1960's. The photograph, I think, would have been taken in the 1920's and at a guess I may have seen it displayed in a museum at Fort William - possibly in a magazine or book.
There's an article in the Inverness Courier archives about an Edinburgh man, Henry Alexander, who drove a Ford car up Ben Nevis. Lilian >
