The name Archibald is an uncommon one amongst the Laggan Macphersons, with the exception of a son born to Duncan of the Cluny family (later Clan Chief) in 1807 I have noted only 4 others, all seemingly connected with the Drumgask family that you mention- including the Archibald to Angus Macpherson and Jean Macpherson 8/3/1807. Have noted 3 baptisms to Archibald and Janet Cameron in Laggan, the first two at Drummin and Melgarve in the upper Spey valley and the third at Drumgask.

Sorry pressed send by mistake - I'll continue Hi, I am looking for a family of Dougalls who were working in Inverness in the 1860s. I know this because one was born in Inverness in 1865 and another in 1867. The parents were Henry Dougall (a railway worker) and Agnes. Their oldest child was born in 1850 in Stirlingshire. There are several others. I wondered if anyone had any records of a Dougall marrying into their family. Thank you for any help. Best wishes, Linda --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Hello List, I am a new subscriber from 'down under' and I am wondering if SKS can give me some advice. I am looking for information from the Kirk Session Records from Duirinish on the Isle of Skye between 1820-1850 - does anyone know how I can get info. from these apart from going to NRH in Edinburgh? I know that the LDS haven't filmed them. If going personally is the only answer, if anyone out there is going in the near future I would really appreciate it if they could have a look at them for me. Alexander McDONALD (I know, don't say it, McDONALD's from the Isel of Skye - I have to be joking - unfortunately not!!) married 1831 to Mary McDONALD, maiden name McDONALD as well, son Hector born 1832. I don't have any reason to think they would be mentioned in the KSRs, but I would just like to make sure, sometimes it's surprising what comes to light and I am stuck on Alexander. Thanks for any help and advice, Kind regards, Anne Major - Melbourne, Australia

G'day yourself, and thanks very much for all of the data. I have passed this on to my Australian MacNaughton cousin, because that certainly looks like her family. There is no doubt she will be very pleased to get it. You have said the data is from the Pre-1855 book. Please tell me if there is a Post-1855 book. I am looking for a JANET MACNAUGHTON nee KENNEDY who died after 1881. In 1881 she was only 28 so she may have lived for a good many years after that. Hi Listers. Does anyone have access to any old maps of Scalpay just off the cost of Skye, I am trying to locate the site of an old Viking settlement that in Gaelic sounds like GANBO but I do not know how it is spelt, it is a settlement built in a circle on I understand the North of the island. I don't have my OS maps to hand so can't confirm, but from memory Corriechoillie is an estate farm somewhere around the High Bridge - Tirndrish area, just out of Fort William. Cameron of Corriechoillie, there is a picture of him somewhere (sorry for being vague, most of my stuff is in Glasgow just now), was one of those archtypal Highlanders who supported things Scottish like the Northern Meeting piping competitions. He was one of the last drovers in the Highlands (there must surely be a reference to him in Haldane's Drove Roads of Scotland). The tune went almost hand in glove with another 2 parted 2/4 called 'Teribus' and as such was an absolute classic pairing played by the vast majority of pipe bands until about the 1960s. Incidentally, you might find the place by trying one of the better on line map search guides. best of luck Bruce Campbell Check out our WEB SITE http://home.btconnect.com/brucecampbell Duntroon Publishing Publishers of Celtic World and other quality Scottish Traditions books and magazines Editorial: Tel 077 5984 5201 Central Hall, 304 Maryhill Road, Glasgow G20 7YE Business & Accounts: t/f 0151 651 0095 120 St Oswalds Avenue, Prenton, Wirral CH43 7ZH >From: Kay and Greg Blackburn <[email protected]> >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [SCT-INV] Where is "Corryohully" >Date: Wed, 19 Nov 2003 11:13:00 +1300 > >Thanks for that Bruce. > >It looks like there could be a good story to tell here. In reply to this and your previous post, I would suggest that you contact the Commissioner for Clan Donald in Queensland and ask whether these names have come up in any research that they may have done there... The Commissioner of Clan Donald - Queensland is Malcolm C.McDonald, OAM.,FACAP. [email protected] As for MacMillan, although I too have MacMillan ancestry I have not as yet researched that line and there is no active Clan MacMillan Society in NSW but I believe that there are activites in Victoria The Clan MacMillan Society of Australia can be located on the web at: clanmacmillanaus.freeservers.com

Thanks for that Bruce. It looks like there could be a good story to tell here. Now I am sure that I don't know the "wee pipe tune" although I have heard of Willie Ross. I have not heard of P Cameron the famous drover from the end of the 1800s. So lets be having you lad, come now, tell us the story. I have looked up my there maps of Lochaber and I still do not know where Corriechoillie is. Obviously I have the wrong maps. I have tried "old maps" but have no success there. Is there somewhere else for me to try. If my guess work is any good I think that Corriechoillie/Corryohully is in or around Glen Spean. Yes? Regards Greg. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Hello All. I frequent the Aberdeen list and pop in & out of this one periodically. So I need some Inverness-related advice. I have several HOSSACK family members who are buried in Tomnahurich Cemetery in Inverness. There is no office there for inquiries. In Aberdeen, the Aberdeen Archives keep lair records for all cemeteries. If you provide the name & date of death, they can tell you where someone is buried and if anyone else shares the lair with them. Can anyone tell me if there is such a resource for Inverness, and if so, provide their contact information? Also, as a by the by, some HOSSACKS headed to Elgin. Which mailing list would serve the Elgin folks? Thanks in advance for all of your help. Judith in Ohio, USA
Anyone looking For BAILLIE or MACKINTOSH very old graves in Inverness that date between about 1750 and 1850 should look at the MI's listing booklet for Greyfriars cemetery, Inverness. Published by the Highland Family History Society, it might be a goldmine for someone. Will do lookup if you want ? Kyle McAllister
Hello all. Is there SKS on the list who could do a lookup in the 1871 census for Fort William for Dugald MacNaughton and his family who were at "25 Middle St Dugald MacNaughton M Head M 44 Dist.Maltman Kilmalie" in the 1881 census. In 1881 the family consisted of Dugald, his wife Janet nee Kennedy, and 6 sons. Dugald and Janet were married 27 Nov 1867 and had a daughter Margaret born 15 Aug 1870. I have not found Margaret 1881. I would like to know the age of Janet in 1871. Regards Greg in New Zealand. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
