I believe it lies within the Invernesshire Parish of Boleskine and Abertarff, and the residents were most likely tenants of the Fraser of Lovat family. Regarding the Passenger Lists for the three ships,I have seen them printed in a number of publications, and elsewhere on the Internet. If you go to a search engine and type in the names of the ships and Fort William, you should get a reference to a relevant website. Good luck with your search. Chris.
I think the place name I am looking for is Killihuntly. Can someone direct me to where I could learn more of the history of this place. Also, a marriage record from 1759 names the place what looks like La*gan. Did Laggan exist then? Can anyone tell me about this place, or offer other suggestions as to what the place might be? Thankyou for all help. Joan _________________________________________________________________ Tired of spam? Hello. I have just received a copy of the parish record entry for my ancestor baptised in 1733, however I cannot quite read the place name. It is from the film of Parish Register of Church of Scotland, Parish Church of Kiltarlity & Convinth. It looks like Kiltschantly? The "Ki" is quite clear, the next two or three letters are blurry, and the ending "antly" is also clear. Can anyone help? Thank you. _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: advanced junk mail protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=dept/bcomm&pgmarket=en-ca&RU=http%3a%2f%2fjoin.msn.com%2f%3fpage%3dmisc%2fspecialoffers%26pgmarket%3den-ca

Here's a poser! I have been looking for a family line fathered by Duncan MacDonell, the brother of Ewen (Hugh) who was my gggrandfather. Both brothers came to Australia in or around 1852 with their widowed mother.. Duncan was last seen in the State of Victoria at his brothers wedding in 1856 and is believed to have lived after this in South Australia, an adjoining State. He was still alive in 1873 (from his mothers death certificate in Victoria). Unfortunately, the death certificates issued in South Australia do not list either the deceased parents nor his origins. I have three possibles from the death records, each are possibles but none of the descendants of each know anything of Duncans origins. At least one of the descendants, a 70 yr old male MacDonald has agreed to DNA testing with me, a 62 y/o male MacDonald. Would anyone know if: A. testing would confirm a direct relationship, and B. can DNA testing show the degree to the relationship, ie. withing "X" generations? David

Country of Stormont, Ont. I have been told through family story, and passing of family history verbally, that he came to Canada, through the Mohawk valley, and unsure but believe to be Loyalists. Thus the land grants. Would this be one of Donalds Son?

Its pronounced "murry" but spelt Moray or Morayshire. Go to genuki.co.uk for info or search on google to find 'The Statistical Accounts for Scotland'. These are parish by parish descriptions and the second account is from around the time of your man's birth. You will not find a birth cert at that date. Christening records may be in Old Parish Records but not for those outside the established church. Best bets are 'banns' for parents marriage, or death of siblings etc post 1855, when certs will show parents names. see 'Scotlandspeople' site for official records. Hope this helps. Judy in Edinburgh

Please ignore this board posting. The poster is a nutcase, who posts this to many boards every day under different names. Do not go visit the website - it has nothing to do with genealogy. But just in case I didn't my interest in Mary Cattanach is her daughter Isabella Inkson (1803-5.12.1887), of Cromdale, Moray. She was the illigitimate daughter of Mary Cattanach & James Inkson. It has her parents names on her death cert. He was recorded as a Ploughman or Coachman. Sadly the Kirk Session Minutes were not recorded in the year Isabella was born so no clues there as to the origins of her parents. Which Inkson line are you from ? How far have you gone back ? I am very interested as I have quite a few on my website. Glenn

In early 1802 they sailed (with children Christine and William) to Canada and settled in Glengarry County, Ontario. A ship's list states the family came from Ardachie, near Fort William, Inverness-shire. Any tips much appreciated as to how I might trace John and Margaret. They were on either the ship "Helen", "Jane" or "Friends" that sailed together from Scotland. Was Ardachie a village or simply a region near Fort William? How might I access records?

Thanks Gail, I am hoping that there are some MacKinnon's from Barra in the history, as this is where Charles was believed to have come from. Any mention of a Charles MacKinnon entering Military Service around 1778 and eventually coming to Nova Scotia in Canada? Names that seem to repeat themselves are Malcolm,John,Donald,Alexander,Charles. I beleive that Charles was married to a Mary Chisholm as a Mary Chisholm and Charles Mackinnon signed a deed selling the first grant of 100 acres(granted in 1785 or so) to a Thomas Copeland in 1792. I think that he had a friend( Duncan Chisholm) who was also a soldier in the 82nd. We have wondered if Mary Chisholm was Duncan Chisholm's sister. We don't know if Charles was married in Scotland or in Nova Scotia. He has descendants in Canada and The United States. Any hints for searching in Scotland would be appreciated. Thanks so much for your offer. Florence MacDonald
