    3. My ancestors Archibald McLeod (1817-1894) and his wife Jessie Nicholson (1822-1910) were both natives of Portree, Isle of Skye, Inverness Shire, Scotland. They reportedly married there in about 1846. The left Scotland in 1849, landing in Montreal, and settling by 1851 in Ashfield Township, North Huron County, Ontario, Canada. The information that I have for the parents of Archibald and Jessie is sketchy. Jessie's parents were reportedly Donald and Ann Nicholson. Archibald's parents were reportedly Malcolm and Ann McLeod/ MacLeod. I also have some names of siblings of Archibald McLeod, namely: Peggy, Malcolm, Catherine, Alexander, Mary, Roderick, Catherine and John, (although I think these are even sketchier). I would be interested if anyone can make a connection with these names and/or provide some additional information. Rick Waggener Walnut Creek, California, United States

    1. [SCT-INV] Inverness War Memorial Cavell Gardens
    2. Margaret Daniels
    3. I understand that my mother's cousin Valentine Chisholm was killed in World War I. I think this was Valentine Chisholm born on 23/08/1898 at 1 Roseberry Terrace, Inverness, son of Valentine Chisholm and Mary Forbes. The only V. Chisholm on the Commonwealth War Graves website is Private V Chisholm 9150, 2nd Bn., Border Regiment who died on 06 February 1915 Buried in Rue-Petillon Military Cemetery, Fleuxbaix There are no family details stated. I have recently found The Scottish National War Memorial website but there is no V. Chisholm detailed there. I wrote to the library in Inverness asking if there is a War Memorial in Inverness with his name on or would any local papers have carried any information about his death. I received a very helpful reply stating that the 'Inverness Courier' had been checked from 16 Feb. to 16 Mar. in both the death notices and war casualty listings but nothing was found. The letter also stated that there is a War memorial in Cavell Gardens but they had no published list of the names thereon. I was wondering if any kind lister lived in Inverness and could look at the War Memorial for me. Also does anyone know how complete the Commonwealth War Grave site or the Scottish War Memorial site is? If anyone has any information or suggestions I would be very pleased to hear from them. 1. [SCT-INV] Hugh Maclean of Spanishtowm Jamaica/Skye
    2. Wendy O'Brien
    3. Over the next little while I am planning to post a number of enquiries that are based on the Will of my 3GGrandfather Hugh Maclean, who for some time was a Master of Equity in Spanishtown Jamaica. This posting is about family mentioned in the will. Future postings will be about other bequests and property. We know that Hugh and his partner Ann Bartlett (they were not married) had seven children - Alexander Falconer c1806, Malcolm c1808, Mary Upton c1810, Elizabeth Scoabeck c1812, Rebecca Williams 20 .9.1814, John Shand (My GGGrandfather) 14.6.1816, and Ann Bartlett 15.1.1819. Rebecca, John and Ann were all baptised on 6.7.1819 in Spanishtown. Ann Bartlett Maclean died 16 March 1845 Hugh Acknowledges all seven as his reputed children in his will which was dated 11 August 1838 and codicil dated 18 June 1842. John Shand came to Australia and I have tracked down most of his descendants however I have nothing on any of his siblings. Also mentioned in the will are: 1. Neil Maclean, surveyor of land in Inverness. Is Neil related to Hugh? Does any one out there know anything about Neil. 2. Christy Maclean was Hugh’s sister and was described as “otherwise McNeill, widow of Rory McNeill, in the Isle of Skye” . Hugh left Christy and also left ₤200.0.0 sterling to each of her lawful children on reaching the age of 21. 3. John Maclean of the Island of Skye was Hugh’s brother. Hugh left him ₤500 sterling with ₤200 to each of his lawful children on reaching the age of 21. 4. William MacCrummen was Hugh’s uncle. There is no bequest to William so I tentatively assume that he predeceased Hugh. There was, however, a bequest of ₤200 sterling to each of Williams lawful children to be paid within 12 months of Hugh’s death. I am assuming that these children were all over 21. They would have been the same generation as Hugh. So far I have not been able to find out anything more about Christy, Rory, John or William. Any ideas would be appreciated and I wonder if anyone out there can claim a connection to this family Wendy in hot & humid Brisbane, Qld
