I am researching the Cuthbertson family and I am wanting to know if anyone knows if the Cuthbertson families in Ayrshire and Lanarkshire in the early 1700s were related in any fashion to the Inverness Cuthbertsons. Or were these two separate groups of people? Am especially interested if anyone, in their Cuthbertson research, has the ancestry of the Rev John Cuthbertson (1718-1791), born in Ayrshire, who was a Covenanter minister first sent to Ireland, then to the USA as a missionary. I have searched the Ayrshire OPRs and other documents and have found only limited items on the Cuthbertsons, and apparently no good genealogies in those shires of that name. I have been in pursuit of this family for years and have come up empty handed every time. Surely there is someone in Scotland who has a good handle on this family (yes, I've tried the Ayrshire, Lanarkshire, and Cuthbertson lists). Thanks for any direction on this.

Have you thought of writing to the editor of one of the local papers, for inclusion in the letters page of one of their issues? - you are more likely to find someone who actually knew him. Their postal address is: Highland News Group Stadium Road Inverness IV1 1FF United Kingdom Tel 01463 732222 Fax 01463 732273 The Inverness Courier would also be an option. hope this helps, regards, Lorna

William was in the R.A.F. as a cook for a short time. and his brother who I never knew was a sailor in the Royal Navy Both my Fathers Parents were killed during World War 2 which left my father an orphan.
I dont understand all the details about the relationship between people and place names. Certainly, when people state categorically 'the name xxxxx originated in place YYYY" - be skeptical, because the reality of these things is SO much more complicated. But it is probably relevant that there is a local place name, Keith, which is a railway station and (market?) town just to the east of the Spey river. I suspect this wasn't Invernessshire, but its the same neck of the woods. So if I were you my first move would be to head for www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and check for both KEETH and KEITH. Registration started a bit later than you have been told - 1855 - but there are earlier records based on the old parish records. Have a look at the background info pages. If Julia or a sibling died in Scotland post 1855 then of course you can look for a death record, which will give parents names - accuracy dependant on memory and who was asked of course. My great grandmother, Julia Emily Keeth, was born in Inverness or Inverness-shire in 1840, according to some old family notes. Compulsory Birth Registration in Inverness-shire, I understand, did not start until 1851 and so I have not been able to discover exactly where she was born, or the names of her parents. I know from my research that there are a large number of people world-wide with the Keeth surname, and most of those families appear to have their origins in the Inverness area. I am hoping to obtain some definitive information on Julia Emily Keeth and her family from the 1840/1850/1860 Census' when they are published online with surname indexes. Is anyone currently researching the Keeth name or aware of any activity in that direction? I would be most grateful for any help, Bob Refault, Hampshire, England
