I am evidently related to Thomas MUIR (1765-1799) a Scottish political reformer (see: <Monument to the Martyrs in Old Colton Burying Ground>). He was sentenced to 14 years transportation for sedition. His cousin was William MUIR, (born abt. 1765, died aft. 1815) from whom I am descended (and founder of William MUIR, Bond 9 Distillery, in Edinburgh) and Thomas' father was a James MUIR, born abt. 1700), son of a "bonnet laird" of Hayston & Birdston Farms. I do not know the name of James' brother, who must be the father of William MUIR. Possible candidates are George, Alexander and William. Can anyone help me with this information?
