Number 81 Fountainbridge isnt under the school car park after all, but I suspect it is not the same building where George Lithgow died. It seems to be part of a tenement block with number 81 itself apparently a branch of William Hill the bookmaker. There is 'Hopetoun Court' nearby - now just a tunnel. Perhaps Fountain Court was similar. This is the same little bit of street as the building which I believe housed the first Co-op shop in Scotland. The Scotmid (Scottish & Midland Co-operative Society) headquarters is just over the road. Maybe someone whose relatives havent run off with their copy of the "Three Great Roads" can check this. ;-) Judy ---------- >From: "J A Olsen" <Copywriter@tesco.net> >To: SCT-EDINBURGH-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [EDB] Riego St, Fountainbridge and the rubber factories >Date: Sun, Jan 13, 2002, 9:41 pm > > Fountainbridge is still there of course, but I think the Court may be under > the primary school car park. > This was the one of the most industrialised bits of Edinburgh in the 19thC. >
