Hello, List, I have gone to a couple of sites, Cyndi's List and http://www.geo.ed.ac.uk/home/scotland/genealogy.html They are rich with information. However, when I click on the GRO links I get either an error message or I get into a loop or I get a long explanation for paying for searching. It's way too early in my Scotland searches to surf sites. I would like to write directly to country offices for copies of records. I need advice from listers on the best way to do that. Since searching for ancestors is usually not the main occupation of these offices, I need some direction on the best path. I am interested in the Edinburgh parish first with others to follow. Are there free databases with indexes? I've been successful with things like that in other countries and wonder if there is one for Scotland. I will appreciate any advice anyone has. Best regards, Roberta
