Hi Nancy Thanks for getting touch. I'm not aware of a AITKEN/FERGUSON connection, but it's not out of the question that I had a confectioner in that family around that time. My ggg-grandmother Janet AITKEN was a Shopkeeper/Grocer in Home Street in the 1800's (she died in Lauriston Place in 1895). One of her grandsons, another Thomas AITKEN (born 1889), was apparantly a grocer somewhere. Some other names that I know of in the early 1900's include Thomas, James, Samuel, Adam and Alexander. Do you have any more information about your confectioner, an address or anything? Agnes Ferguson married a Aitken who was a confectioner in Edinburgh during the 1920. Do you have anyone in you Aitken tree that may match. Sorry, not much info to go on.
