Hi Kathleen, Cowan's Close runs/ran southwards off the Cowgate not far to the east of where it passes under George VI Bridge. This would be c. 1/2 mile from E. Message: 1 I found the following two addresses in the 1851 Scottish census: 9 Cowan's Close, St. Cuthberts 6 East Rose Street South Side, St. Andrews I don't think that Cowan's Close exists today. Will sks with access to a legible 1851 street map of Edinburgh please look up these addresses and tell me the distance between the two?
