Hello List, I know I have mentioned lots of times about my 3X Great Grandfather James Paxton. But I would love to be able to go back further than him if possible. Could someone please tell me where to go now to find out any other information on him as he died before the 1841 census was taken, he might have even died as far back as July 1831. All I know about James Paxton is he married Margaret Currie on 13, February 1817 and at the time of their marriage his Occupation was a Carter and he was in Residence at Shoemakers Close, Canongate, Edinburgh, Scotland. After the marriage of James and Margaret their first child a son Henry was born about 1818 in Edinburgh, But have not been able to find his birth or christening date anywhere. They then moved to Tranent, East Lothian, Scotland by 1820 where they had three more children born in 1820, 1822, and 1825. But then must have moved to Musselburgh, Midlothian, Scotland by the end of 1825 early 1826 where their daughter Janet Paxton was born again not found any birth or christening records. Then their last son my 2X Great Grandfather James Ferdinand Douglas Paxton was born in Musselburgh on 24, December 1830 and James senior's Occupation had changed to Quarryman. But then probably died in July 1831, I say Probably as i was sent a buriel date of a James Paxton occupation Labourer who died in July 1831 (buried 28th July 1831 Js. Paxton Labourer) This is all I know about my 3X Great Grandfather James Paxton, I don't even know when he was born as it mentioned he was of full age. Not even a mention of his parents on his marriage bands OPR I sent for. Any help would be appreciated in where do I go from here. Thank you in advance for any information or help I might receive. Kind Regards Pamela J Groves
Hello Pamela, I have found the family of James PAXTON = Margaret CURRIE. Children of the above are:- 1) Mary Ann Paxton born 1820 2) Agnes Paxton born 1822 3) Peter Paxton born 1825 4) James Ferdinand Douglas Paxton born 1830. The Janet Paxton you mentioned is the daughter of another James Paxton, and his wife Janet HAY. Also Henry Paxton (there is only 1 and he was born 1828), has other parents not being of these families. I found the unusual name of Sandilands PAXTON when looking for parents of James Paxton. I was wondering if Sandilands and Ferdinand are the same name but transcribed with error? F and S sometimes look similar in old style writing. Sandilands PAXTON married Mary Fairbarn and they had a son James PAXTON born 1798. Maybe this is worth looking further into.
