    3. Could someone please help me to find information on Annie Reid, b. C1847 Edinburgh. All I have is a birth certificate for a daughter Annie Reid, born 1870 Victoria, Australia. The certificate states that her mother was Annie Reid b. c1847 Edinburgh, Scotland and does not state any father for the child. On Annie Jnr's marriage certificate, she states her father as John Reid with the name Smith underneath. This is also repeated on her death certificate. I do not know whether the "John Reid" was a cover up for an unknown father or was Annie Reid (Snr) a married name. Fact or fiction??? A family "story" was that Annie Snr was pregnant to the son of the master's household and fled to Australia. Fact or fiction again??? I have been unable to find any information on her since she gave birth to the child. Annie Jnr was reared by an Ellen Rogers in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and I do not know how much contact Annie Snr had. Have tried adoption records, gaols, hospitals, infirmaries, South Australian Records, NSW Records, what shipping records I could, etc all for no result. Do shipping records from Scotalnd to Australia exist? Hopefully someone can help me or tell me where else I may try. Thanking you in anticipation Carol

    3. Hi Carol, I had a look on Ancestry and this is what they had. Ages on the census are 'about', as in about that year born. 1851 census Craigs Close, Midlothian James Reid, 26, Labourer excavator Ann Reid, 22 Robina Reid, 5 Ann Reid, 3 1861 census Colinton Road, Myreside, Midlothian William Reid, 60 Isabell Reid, 65 Ann Reid, 13 William I Reid, 11 Mary Reid, 8 1861 census Laren, Fifeshire Ann Berwick, 73 James Berwick, 72, Retired shipmaster Ann Berwick, 30 James Torsney, 28, Engineer Ann Reid, g dau, 15, born North Leith, Midlothian Anne Crawford, g dau, 4 Using exact spelling a search for Annie Reid showed nothing on the 1861 census using a + and - of 5 years for 1847. Using exact spelling a search on the 1851 census showed an Annie Reid in Clackmannan, Fife and Ross using a + and - of 5 years for 1847. Had a look on the Australia site, nothing showed up for Victoria. I know it's not easy this genealogy. Keep going.
