    3. Judy, The Scotsman has a full archive online of their paper from 1817-1950. You can pay for access for a day, week, etc. See http://archive.scotsman.com/. I haven't found any online resource that is as useful at this one, but I am interested in hearing about other sites. I used the service a few months ago to search for articles on my ancestors in Edinburgh. The character recognition of the scans is pretty good. I only found a few noise hits out of hundreds for a given search. Cheers, Chris -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Judy Mann Sent: Thursday, February 22, 2007 6:24 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [SCT-EDINBURGH] Edinburgh newspapers in the 1860s John FOX does not appear on the 1861 census with his family in Edinburgh. I've not been able to locate him in Scotland. His wife is listed as the head of the family, but married and not a widow. His wife remarries as a widow in September 1868. We know his youngest son was born March 1858 so we have a 7 to 10 year window. We have not narrowed down his death. John was born in 1808, so would have been between 50 and 60. A recent family story has emerged that John was murdered. Details are vague, but apparently his frozen body was found, so winter months are involved. I'm wondering how I can find out which newspapers existed in Edinburgh during the 1860s and if there are archives for those publications that may have published a story about the murder? Any suggestions are welcomed. Thank you Judy Mann Canada --------------------------------- Ask a question on any topic and get answers from real people. Go to Yahoo!
