Hello, I'm new to this list & new to research in this part of the country - all my other connections are Argyll, Lanark, Dumfries, Renfrew & Perth. My 4xgreat grandfather, George HAMILTON (1794-1887), b. Lesmahagow, LKS, s/o Thomas HAMILTON & Marion TUDHOPE, married Margaret BLACK (abt. 1794-1870). They married abt. 1824 & had several children in the Carnwath, LKS area, before moving up to Kilberry, ARL abt. 1850. Until now, all we knew was that Margaret BLACK was not born in LKS. The census of 1861 for Teretigan, Kilberry, ARL gives her place of birth as Edinburgh, Midlothian. A search of her death record - March 23, 1870 - gives her parents as John BLACK (farmer) deceased & Catherine LOCKIE deceased. The census of 1851 is unclear, but it looks like her birth place was Canongate, Edinburgh. Can anyone add to this new info.? Thanks very much! Mary in Canada
