I ran across some CDs on ebay offered by a seller in the UK. (I believe the name was "Family History Indexes".) What caught my eye was the Seamens Crew Lists CDs for 1851. There is a Master List (index) CD and several "companion" CDs from various regions in Scotland. Has anyone used these CDs or know anything about them? My Cunningham Sheppard was born in 1833 (St Cuthberts). While I have him on the 1841 census, he seems to have disappeared by 1851. He reappears on the 1860 NYC census as a "seaman" and living in a seamens boarding house. I'm not familiar with "seaman's tickets" and don't know where to begin this area of research---if it's even possible. The price of these CDs is very reasonable and I don't mind ordering them if they are what I need for this research. Thanks for any help or suggestions. Sandy Ellis

Good morning Sandra, I have the six Scottish CD's , three Irish plus Cornwall and have found them most useful They contain names and details of seamen " who cannot be located on the 1851 census simply because they were not at home to be enumerated " I have no idea what percentage of those in this category are listed but as I say have found them most helpful.
