Hello All, I have just taken advantage of the ability to download images of BDM's through Scotlands people and have just downloaded the record of the above marriage.I was expecting to see just a short note about who married awho and when but got the following . Its a rough transcription. George Noteman Gardener Pilton and Janet Gifford comp? and adhered to this marriage written and signed by Alexander McKenzie at Edinburgh the first day of October one thousand andseven hundred and thirty two before these witnesses Alexander Noteman brother and Mary Ogile in Edinburgh.The ? sharply rebuked them for their irregular practice and exhorted them to ? repentance and likewise required them to pay ye Clerk and Church officer what is due to them when persons are regularly proclaimed. Ye s? ? this certificate to be lodged in the Clerks hand. Can any one explain what was considered to be irregular about all this to warrant such an entry in the Cramond parish record?
