We are searching the family of John Montgomery and Barbara Allan Campbell and all allied kin in Scotland.I am also interested in which Campbell's and Allan lines we can find as well as MacKay ,Mackenzie and more.....Below is information to clarify whick line we follow. If you look in the 1861 Census we find John Montgomery, who was not with his father and mother in the 1861 census in Strachur,Argyll,Scotland. However, we do find him in the 1861 census with his aunt Marth (Montgomery) Kerry listed as an apprentice fleshier to his uncle John Keddie, who was a fleshier or butcher. So now we understand how he became a Butcher instead of a smithy as his kin in Strachur,Argyll,Scotland were with the ""Smiddy'' there, now on the national register.. In the 1861 census, that we find that Dougald Montgomery was the Postmaster. So apparently his son William Montgomery took over the Smithy when his grandfather William Montgomery died, and William's son John after him. Colin was Dougald Montgomery and Jane McKenzie's youngest child ,according to the 1861 census.
