    1. Re: [SCT-EDINBURGH] Jeanie - short for what name?

    3. Good morning, Never heard of the expression "home" name but like your explanation. My dad always called me "Petunia" (!) but to me that was my nickname and not a home name. James Burns Allan and "Jeanie" Allan came from Scotland through Ellis Island (that discovery was a complete surprise as the others came directly to Canada). James and "Jean" had given Montreal as their ultimate address - staying with friends rather than at his brother's house (wonder what that story was?). Was never able to find a marriage on Scotlandspeople. As for the birth of their children, have not been able to get to the Archives to check anything out. Darn old job keeps interfering with my genealogy research :- ) Thank you for your help, Petunia (oops I mean Heather ) in cold Montreal ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bev Symons" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, February 04, 2007 11:10 PM Subject: Re: [SCT-EDINBURGH] Jeanie - short for what name? > It may be that Jeanie was her "home" name and had no relation to her > christened name at all.
