In 1810 my 3x g grandparents, it seems, were irregularly married as shown by the following two extracts OPR extract 8th May 1810 in Edinburgh 'Kenneth McKenzie, printer, High Church Parish and Helen Smeal same parish, daughter of Robert Smeal, shoemaker, Jedburgh '. OPR extract September 30th 1810 in Parish of Newbattle. 'Kenneth McKenzie of this parish and Helen Smeal of the parish of Edinburgh having been irregularly married on the 11th May 1810 paid their dues this day'. As the Smeal name is fairly unusual, I would assume that both extracts refer to the same people. Could anyone suggest a reason for the marriage being irregular. Many thanks Rob
