Has anyone come across a Thomas Johnston and Jane Thomson in their research? I am guessing that they married about 1790 - give or take a few years. Their daughter Jane Johnston married John Sinclair at St.Cuthbert's, Edinburgh in 1820, but all my attempts to trace them have failed since both names are so common, and no marriage is listed for them in the OPR. On Jane's marriage certificate in 1820, Thomas is described as a crofter, and living at 24 Salisbury Street. I am baffled as to why a crofter was living in the heart of the city - unless he had retired and moved to Edinburgh. Anyway, I would expect them to have more than one child, so this is a plea for any information on the family - for which I will be very grateful, and in return will happily do a few look ups at New Register House if needed.
