    1. [SCT-EDINBURGH] Turnbull, St Cuthbert's, Edinburgh Parish
    2. Hello Meg Paul Collins here, Australian, but living in Brazil. I descended from Robert Edwin Turnbull b. 16 Jul 1790, Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh who married in 1822 in South Africa, Rachel Harper b. 03 Jun 1794 Dalgety, Fife. Robert, a surgeon with the 80th Regiment, moved with his family to Australia in 1837. I'd be pleased if you could assist me with death lookups of Robert's parents, and if possible can you let me know any additional info about Roberts mother, Ann Maughan. Ann Maughan, her sister Elizabeth Maughan, and brother Robert Maughan all married in Edinburgh Parish 1781, 1784 and 1786, but I can't find a lead on Ann Maughan's parents ' IGI gives Ann's father is John Maughan, but there is no mention of her mother, and I can't locate in IGI any DPOB date and place of birth for her parents. Robert Edwin Turnbull's parents are William Turnbull, b. 16 Oct 1759, Edinburgh Parish and Ann Maughan, b. abt 1760 .... (don't know the parish) William Turnbull and Ann Maughan married 17 Nov 1781 Edinburgh Parish If it's not too much to ask, is it an easy matter to look up deaths for the children of William Turnbull and Ann Maughan? Are spouses listed in the death registration? children - 1. William Turnbull, b. 25 Nov 1782, Edinburgh Parish 2. Ann Turnbull, b. 01 Dec 1783, Edinburgh Parish 3. James Turnbull, b. 03 Feb 1785, Edinburgh Parish 4. Manny Symington Turnbull, b. 05 Feb 1787, 5. John Turnbull, b. 17 May 1788, Edinburgh Parish 6. Peter Turnbull, b. 19 Jul 1790, Edinburgh Parish 7. ** Robert (Edwin) Turnbull, b. 16 Jun 1791, Edinburgh Parish - died Parramatta, Sydney, Australia 8. Richard Turnbull, b. 22 Jul 1792, Edinburgh Parish 9. John Turnbull, b. 23 Aug 1794, Edinburgh Parish 10 Thomas Turnbull, b. 23 Mar 1796, Edinburgh Parish 11. Malcolm Turnbull, b. 09 Oct 1797, Edinburgh Parish 12. Alexander Turnbull b. 25 Nov 1798, Edinburgh Parish Any help will be appreciated - and appreciated more, especially since I realise your efforts are voluntary Sincerely Paul Collins Sao Paulo ----- Original Message ----- From: Meg Greenwood To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, April 16, 2007 9:57 PM Subject: Re: [SCT-EDINBURGH] Johnston/Thomson Mention of the 1855 Registrations brings me to remind all this List that the FHC where I volunteer has all of the 1855 Registrations for Edinburgh. All Births, Marriages and Deaths entered into the 1855 books are on film only 8 minutes from my house. I can look up any you might wish, Births and Marriages are reliable given in the IGI but not all the information was used, there is a lot more in the Registration than what's in the IGI, 1855 was a magical year for details on Registrations. 1856 and later the questions were lessened by about half. Deaths are a problem as they aren't in the IGI from the Registers, only Patron Submissions. If you have a ScotlandsPeople Index entry for 1855, I can get the details. These are the very same ones you'd get from ScotlandsPeople. If you know a PARISH in Edinburgh, I can check for a name in the Deaths, but only Deaths please. Births and Marriages are sufficiently covered in the IGI to figure out if a name is there. Very late entries in 1854 might be in the 1855 register. First few entries in every year's books for January usually were very late December events. Write personally and I'll send the details in the Registration, the handwritten entries used 2 pages in a Registration book beginning on the left, horizontally across the binding to the right side of the page but only about 5 lines were used vertically. So the entry was very short and very wide. Make your Subject line "Edinburgh Civil Registrations" even if you are asking about another county. It helps me keep track of where it came from since I have an agressive spam filter. 1. [SCT-EDINBURGH] Stewart/McGregor St Cuthbert's, Edinburgh Parish

    3. I am looking for a death of Margaret McGregor who was married to Angus Stewart in Canongate June 25,1834. The couple had 5 children that I know of: Peter 1833 Crieff, Angus 1835 Canongate,Alexander 1838 St. Cuthbert's, Janet 1840 St. Cuthbert's,William George 1843 St. Cuthbert's. The family is in the 1841 census for Edinburgh. By 1851, Angus Sr. is a widower. I have been able to trace Janet, Angus Jr. and William. John and Alexander disappear so may have died young. I'm interested in locating their deaths and their mother's death. Suggestions would be most welcome. Regards, Virginia
