The only way you will be able to obtain a copy is to pay for it on ScotlandsPeople. Just "Google" the name and the site will come up. Scotland is the only country so far that I have found where you invariably have to pay for the information you seek. Unless somebody has access of a CD-ROM for that year and is willing to look up the information for you, that is about your only option. However, the information obtained from Ancestry.com was taken directly from the census page, so I doubt you will find out much more, if anything, than you already know. I have just joined this list to seek some advice. Yesterday I found a William STENSON on the 1871 Census of Scotland (thanks to Ancestry.com). I think he might be my great grandfather's brother. The information from Ancestry is as follows: Name:William F Stenson Age:37 Estimated birth year:abt 1834 Relationship:Head Spouse's name :Sarah Ann Gender:Male Where born:England Registration Number:692/2 Registration district:Leith South Burgh Civil parish:Leith South Town:Leith County:Midlothian Address:14 Primrose St Occupation:Ironsmith ED:3 Page:37 (click to see others on page) Household schedule number:190 Line:4 Roll:CSSCT1871_169 My question is, "Where/how can I get a copy of the census page or a transcript of the page?" I am hoping that some of the other information on the page will be useful in determining exactly who this person is. hi Kelly Thanks for your reply. I will check out Scotlands People. I also have to check out the LDS to see if I can order in a census film, but that requires a 3 week wait and still costs $8. Is there any chance of the census being more precise about the birthplace? The person I am interested in was born in Coleorton, Leics. Hi Everyone I joined Scortland's People and got the census image I needed. As Kelly suggested, it didn't help. But, I searched for Stenson Children between 1871 and 1880 and found the birth of a daughter. From the birth record, I now know the wife's maiden name (SMITH - oh joy!) and that they married Oct 5, 1864 on the Isle of Jersey! Vern in Ontario
Hi, Vern. I just did a search on FreeBMD under the name William F. Stenson and nothing came up, but when I left off the first name and initial, SCADS of Stensons came up. Perhaps, somewhere in all that data you might recognize another relative's name. Oh, and yes, you can even view the actual image. Let me know if you find out anything. I'm rootin' for ya!
