Colleen, are you sure they were married in Scotland? I did a search at ScotlandsPeople and there were no marriages for a Thomas Hamilton and Isabella Scarlet listed in the Statutory Register. I didn't put date or place parameters on the search. The only Thomas Hamilton and Isabella Scarlett marriage I could find in St. Cuthberts took place in 1791 so obviously not yours.
