Hello Doug, I have a Whitelaw in connection with my VAIR ancestors. Robert VAIR (1806-1869), brother of my 3xgr-grandfather, was married to Marion WHITELAW, who died at Athelstaneford, East Lothian on 13 Dec 1881. Her parents were given as George WHITELAW and Janet SNEATH on the death reg. The IGI shows George WHITELAW married to Janet on 16 Aug 1800 at Athelstaneford. Robert Vair and Marion were married at Melrose in 1825. I have traced descendants of Robert VAIR and Marion WHITELAW through scotlandspeople.gov.uk with connections to Canada, as well as my own direct line to his brother James VAIR, whose widow came with her children to Ontario about 1859. If you have any information on the Whitelaws mentioned above, I would be delighted to hear it.
