Look here for a description of the building. http://www.geo.ed.ac.uk/scotgaz/features/featurelinks287.html This suggests no 8 and 10 are in the same style and no 8 is shown here: http://www.edinphoto.org.uk/0_street_m/0_street_views_- _nicolson_street.htm Its quite hard to tell from that where no8 ends and no10 begins- the entrances to the upper floors may be side by side. But unless there has been renumbering, this is what the buildings in question look like. Much earlier than one might have thought - I would have said no earlier than 1830s to look at them, and because of the area, but in fact they are 18thC - the pediment would be a clue I suppose.
