I think this would be MERCHISTON - not too far from Colinton and on the west side of Edinburgh. I am not certain, but Merchiston was probably in St. Cuthbert's Parish, as many of my Sinclair ancestors lived close to there and their marriages and deaths seem to me in St. Cuthbert's.
