Hi, Can anyone tell me what is meant when the LDS just put Edinburgh Parish? Many thanks Cheers Marilyn
It was called Midlothian later. You can find the parish maps on genuki. Not really. This is so complicated I don't understand entirely but Midlothian is basically now a region but was previously a county. It now begins some way out of the city but some Edinburgh addresses still say Midlothian as opposed to East or West Lothian or Lothian Region which I think covered all three, and was dissolved when the 1975 reforms were reversed and Edinburgh itself became a unitary authority. Older Edinburgh records may be found under the county of Midlothian or Edinburghshire = I think this depends on the date. That's quite different from any sort of parish record, even the mega parish of St Cuthberts! I did say it was complicated!
