This will be Boroughmuirhead. Today I would think of Boroughmuirhead as being the corner of Bruntsfield Place and Montpelier Park but it looks as if at one time it was the name of the road going south from that point. Greenhill would now mean the streets with that name, but it appears there were various houses of that name - in other words at the time you mention it would have referred to an area right next to Boroughmuirhead rather than the current streets which I would say are a bit further eastwards. To get your bearings look here: http://www.nls.uk/maps/towns/detail.cfm?id=421 also here- hover over the grid and select map 42. http://www.nls.uk/maps/townplans/edinburgh1056_1_sw.html and here -select the lower pink bit. http://www.nls.uk/maps/towns/detail.cfm?id=784 and here - pick 111.11.13 http://www.nls.uk/maps/townplans/edinburgh500_sw.html cheers Judy On 14 Oct 2008, at 08:46, Watson Family wrote: > Hi, > Please could somone tell me where these places are. Hi Judy, Many thanks for that. Those maps are great. Now to find out where they were born . Agnes Gibson's father Alexander, was a smith at Borough (Burrow) Muirhead in 1789. Is St Cuthberts the only church that has records in that area, of presbyterian births? cheers Marilyn At 06:33 PM 14/10/2008, you wrote: >This will be Boroughmuirhead. > >Today I would think of Boroughmuirhead as being the corner of >Bruntsfield Place and Montpelier Park but it looks as if at one time >it was the name of the road going south from that point.
