Hello, Is there anyone on the list who has access to trade directories for Edinburgh and Leith? Would both places be in one directory? I'm interested in John McKAY (sometimes MACKAY) who was a Spirit Merchant in Leith in 1868. In that year his daughter, Louisa, married John HILL also a Spirit Merchant. John was the son of John HILL, a shoemaker (presumably in Leith). Any information about any of these people would be gratefully received! Jan, I have directories for Edinburgh and Leith (they are combined) for 1858-9 and 1875-6. 1858-9 shows John Hill, Boot and Shoe warehouse, 43 Nicholson Street, Edinburgh. John Hill, spirit dealer, 7 Northumberland Place Edinburgh, but near the top of Leith Walk. John M'Kay, spirit dealer, Newhaven 1875-6 shows: John Hill, spirit dealer, 33 Bath Street Leith. There is no John M'Kay listed as a spirit dealer in Leith, but Mrs M'Kay, spirit dealer, 28 Portland Place, Leith Hope this is helpful. Stuart.
