hello Richard what was the source ie manuscript or transcription? My first thought was this has to be somewhere in Edinburgh city, which was pretty small at the time. But in fact when you read it carefully it is only the father of the apprentice who is noted as being in 'Carmeban' ,which opens things up a bit I think.
