Dear John, Thanks for that. I am now certain the George Forman, Wine Merchant, Adelphi Place is NOT the same as the George Forman, Publican, (Levenhall) although close contemporaries. The first married Elisabeth Gairdner Richardson: the second seems to have predeceased Mrs Forman (according to the '81 census Marion Forman, a widow, was publican at Levenhall, aged 75, with children ). The IGI has a Marion Bowman marrying George Forman in 1826 and having those children. George Forman, Wine Merchant died there in 1846. I have an idea this was some kind of architectural experiment and notice there is a "Vanbrugh Hermitage" now on Leith Links. 2) Leven Hall. A George Forman is listed in the Edinburgh & Leith PO directory for 1842-1843 as follows: Forman, George, publican, Leven Hall. Was there an old Leven Hall East of Leith? I think George is probably one and the same person. <Hello andrew, If you look at the current maps you will find Levenhall lies at the eastern boundary of Musselburgh racecourse and golf course, some six miles east of Leith Links. In the 1852 P.O. Directory a Mrs Forman is shown as being an inkeeper at Levenhall and to this day there is still a public house, there, known as "Mrs Formans".( The pub is adjacent to the racecourse) Levenhall , although it lies within the boundary of Musselburgh and is in East Lothian, was until the nineteen fifties the terminus of the Edinburgh Corporation tram and bus services. Regards. John D. Stevenson. Cool, bright, 6C, Edinburgh.>
