    3. Hello fellow listers Would SKS be able to do a look up on the 1841 and/or 1851 census for James CLARK with the following family James Clark - age unknown etc (according to opr marriage in Tranent 1833 was of the parish) Martha CLARK - wife - born 1808 Glasgow Janet Clark - dau - born 1834 Yester, Haddingtonshire Martha Clark - dau - born 1837 Prestonkirk, H Charlotte Clark - dau - born 1840 Prestonkirk Robina Clark - dau - born 1846 Gladsmuir there was a son Richard Clark born 1852 in Humbie which may be where they were in 1851 but not guaranteed I suppose - and there may have been another I have a real sad reason for wanting to find James in that he carried a hereditary disease and died shortly after Richard was born. The disease is now known as Familial Adenomatous Polyposis ( bowel cancer then) EVERY one of the above children died of it, all but one before having children of their own. Charlotte had 4 children before dying of it at the age of 37. her children all died of it again before having had children, except one - James SANDERSON. James had 2 children and then died of it at the age of 36! He had a son, James (died without having children at the age of 34) and a daughter Davina (my grandmother) who managed to have one daughter (my mother) before dying at the age of 37. My mother had myself and my brother before dying at 41. My brother died 4 years ago when he was only 29 (no children) - I am, however still very much alive, even though I have the disease and have had my bowel removed etc and I am now 41!! I have had 5 children of which only one has inhe! rited the disease (my eldest) the others have been genetically tested and are clear. YIPPEE!!! My reason for sharing this with you is not for pity (who need's it!) but to highlight why I first started researching my family history some 10 years or so ago - I wanted to find out why nobody picked up this trail of destruction beforehand and now I have started I can't stop! SO - I would love to follow James CLARK back further to see just where this disease started - I know it will become harder as the OPR burial records won't have cause of death as such but the age (if given) will help a little in determining whether they were a possible carrier. Sorry for going on!! It's a bit like my brick wall I suppose, never ending! TIA Regards Shirley
