Hi Everyone, I am interested to find out more about the family of my great great grandfather John BURN (1815-1885) and his wife Mary DICKSON (1817-1893). John was a stonemason who from c.1849 was a clerk at Hailes Quarry in Colinton. In 1871 he was described as Superintendent of Hailes Quarry. The children of John and Mary BURN (all born in Edinburgh) were:- 1) Isabella BURN b.1840; m.1875 to John Bowden LAKE in Invercargill, New Zealand. John LAKE died in 1878 and I don't know what happened to Isabella. I can't find a remarriage nor death for her in New Zealand, maybe she returned to Edinburgh. 2) Thomas BURN b.1842; no further information 3) Lewis Alexander Wallace BURN b.1843; with family in 1861 census; no further information 4) Archibald BURN b.1845; emigrated to New Zealand c.1867 --> my line 5) William Thomas BURN b.1849; 1871 with family at Hailes Quarry, described as an architect; no further information 6) John Robert BURN b.1851; died 1878 7) David Laing BURN b.1853; d.1893 Edinburgh; married Lizzie BRENNAN or BRANNAN after 1881; marriage record not found 8) Roseanna Jessie Laing BURN b.1856; m.1887 Thomas D. PETRIE 9) Mary Eliza BURN b.1859; d.1872 I would particularly like to find out more about the children I have no further information on, and would love to hear from anyone interested in this family.
