    3. I have a list of Edinburgh churches in 1838. the Tolbooth Church was in Parliament Square and the incumbent was James MARSHALL A.M. It was established church ie Church of Scotland. If you want to find out if you have the same William (or perhaps the second born to the same couple) then perhaps SKS could look for the family in the index to the 1851 census, Old Town volume. If you have an occupation for Daniel that would help to identify him. The index gives the place of birth of each family member.
