Hello to all, I am a new subcriber so I thought I'd post my query. I wish to access a listing of the "mayors of Edinborough" with the surname CARSTARES in the time period of 1720-1790. Would anyone know where to find this info? Any websites? Here's why: As a young girl, my grmother would tell me that we were descended from Jenny Carstares who came to Canada and whose father had been the mayor of Edinborough. Well, the first part of grmother's story is not true... it was not Jenny Carstares who immigrated, but Janet Murray with her mother (circa 1790). And my research has been stuck there for a long, long time. Cannot link back to Scotland because I don't have the Murray father's name. So am now going to pursue the other part of the legend to see if I can prove/disprove the CARSTARES piece and work forward to see if it links with Murray. Thanks to all in advance for any assistance!
