I am trying to determine which parish my ggrandmother belonged to. She was born Helen STORKE or STROKE to Silas STORKE or STROKE and Ann GOWANS STORKE or STROKE on the 7 April 1873 (or 1874) in "New Edinburgh" Scotland according to her death certificate. The "New" has me confused. I was wondering if this might be a refernce to the parish name. I believe her to belong to the Church of Scotland, but I am not positive at this time. Since I am writing to the list anyway, does anyone know which name STORKE or STROKE is more likely to be the correct name. I would appreciate help from anyone. Thank you to Judy and the list in advance for any assistance! Lorrie Schneck@charter.net confused in WI, USA
Does anyone know if there is a map/plan that shows the areas of the parishes in Edinburgh? I have searched but had no luck Carol ----- Original Message ----- From: "Schneck Family" <schneck@charter.net> To: <SCT-EDINBURGH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, October 29, 2001 2:01 AM Subject: Re: [EDB] St Mary's parish > ----- Original Message ----- > From: J A Olsen <Copywriter@tesco.net> > To: <SCT-EDINBURGH-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Sunday, October 28, 2001 8:45 AM > Subject: [EDB] St Mary's parish > > > > The Edinburgh Almanac of 1838 describes 'the division of the city of > > Edinburgh into nine parishes.
