I wonder if anyone is going to be at the register house in Edinburgh any time soon could they maybe check some info for me? I'm looking for a marriage for a James Slavin and a Caroline Leheny in 1900. I don't know exactly where they got married or what date but if anyone could help me I'd really appreciate it. thank you in advance, Julie
Julie - This isn't as good as a lookup, but it will help someone who is going, OR it will assist you in getting a transcription from a private researcher, OR you can order a cert from the General Register Office yourself from their website. I work with a researcher and can give a good recommendation for her. A transcription of a Marriage entry is 2.50 Pounds Sterling. I think with the Register entry number and parish, a cert from the GRO is about 8.50 Pounds Sterling, and it would be an actual photocopy, as this record is over 100 years old. Surely someone can correct me on this if I am not current in my prices. In 1900, James SLAVIN and Caroline LENENY married in Kilmadock, entry #2. Kilmadock is in Perth county. Note the change in spelling from LEHENY to LENENY in the Register Index. Not sure if this was a typo in the Index book, or it was actually registered as LENENY. Usually was the custom to marry in the Bride's parish, perhaps this is where Caroline was from.
