Hello to all on this List. I need to say oops! I should have said that I have thrashed as much as I can get out of the IGI, by way of search for individual/siblings, for parents, for spouse and by batch number for parish search. The result in many cases is the discovery that for many parishes there is no record of the Dissenter Churches. There is also a very scant record for the Catholic Church. In one parish on the Borders I found only 10/12 entries for the entire period between 1700 to 1856. Now all of the records could not have gone down the plug hole. At least some should have survived. I have been told that the place to search for the seemingly missing records is New Register House. My original question was intended to find out if any means existed for me to get access of any kind which would not cost me an arm and a leg. I estimate that I have currently some 30/40 specific persons or family groups who's record details are needed to continue research in the Lothians, the Borders, Galloway/Ayr, Inverness and the North East of Scotland. These are the ones I know about and as sure as there are little green apples on the tree, there will be more just as soon as I get the answers to the current research questions. During the 10 years of research so far put in I have been very fortunate in contacting many cousins and researchers of various family names who have been able to pass on data and clues which have helped to get the research to this point. Now that I am digging deeper and the going is getting harder. I now need to take on a new learning curve. The nearest LDS Family History Centre is over an hour and a half from my home by public transport and the centre is open on three days a week for four hours each of those days only. I have the partial use of a car which is not as convenient as I would like. The local LDS FHC does not have many Scots records and I am in the process of ordering films, fiche and CDs. Don't worry I'll crack this yet! Thanks to all for your supportive encouragement. That has certainly raised my good spirits. Remember if I can help in any way, my time is yours.
